Hubitat C8 Pro device name does not show on Netgear router

Good morning all. I am in the process of setting up my new C8 Pro hub. I see that the device name does not appear on my Netgear C7000v2 router. I understand that this may be a router issue but I thought I would post here to see if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks!

can you ping the mdns hostname (default his hubitat.local) It won't always resolve properly. The easiest solution is to put in either a new record if you have your own DNS server or simply add it to your hosts file.

Like an actual name? You need to clarify what you are expecting. Does the IP show up?

Is hub on Wifi or Ethernet?

Or perhaps the MAC address if there’s no hostname listed.

I agree there isn’t enough info shared here to understand what the OP was expecting and what they’re seeing.

@peterbransche can you specify which steps you have taken “in the process of setting up” your hub?

If I scan my Lan using an IP Network Scanner such as Advanced IP Scanner, the IP address and MAC address of my Hubatat 8 Pro are listed. However, no device name or manufacturer are listed.

You can find the MAC address of your Hubitat on the label on the back of the device. Then search through the listing to find the matching IP address. Once you have that address, go into your router admin setup and establish a reserved IP address for your device.

Yes I can ping the Hubitat Pro which is connected via Ethernet with a static IP Reservation;

I was just hoping to see the device name, not just the MAC and IP. Here is what I see in attached devices. You can see the the device name is blank. Again I realize that this is not a router support group - just throwing this out there because I know others are interested in the same.

It's primarily because of MDNS. Can you annotate in your router?

When I say I am in the process of setting up my hub I simply mean shutting down the old Hubitat and installing the new Hubitat Pro by restoring a backup to the new unit. The migration process went really smoothly and everything appears to be working great. My Konnected board is reporting status and HE rules are running normally. The only anomaly is that the HE does not report a name to my Netgear router, only IP and MAC

@peterbransche

Edited your post to remove the screenshot with the hub’s MAC address. Not a good idea to expose it.

Thanks aaiyar. I reposted with MAC redacted.

try just assigning a reserved dhcp address on the router with whatever name you want then that will show up.

The solution was found by enabling Access Control on the Netgear Router and giving the device a name in the Access Control list. That did the trick. Thank all for your input.

Problem solved as it relates to Netgear C7000 V2 Router.
