I only see the C8 Pro for sale on the hubitat web site. Is the C8 Pro the only product offered now, or is it just an inventory issue?
I believe this is the case. Remaining C-8 stock is reserved for warranty replacement. The automation experience with the C-8 Pro is vastly superior to that offered by the C-8; for this reason, I believe the decision was made to discontinue production/sales of older models.
Part of this is conjecture on my part; @bobbyD can clarify the situation.
Can you expand on why you think the C-8 Pro is "vastly superior" to the C-8?
Automations are quicker. And it supports automating devices that the C-8 does not. For example, Homekit devices and BT devices.
Adding to the above, it has double the RAM and a faster processor. This has allowed the developers to add some features, such as HomeKit Controller, Tuya, and Bluetooth (currently only BTHome V2) integrations, plus official support for Z-Wave JS, that are not compatible with previous hub versions due to resource constraints -- but it's also just objectively more powerful on paper, probably why some people notice the above as well. ![]()
Not surprising. Hubitat doesn't have the demand to tier a product line with good, better, best lineup of hubs. Once the C8 inventory burned down to warranty safety stock level there is little point manufacturing more at sub scale volumes only to cannibalize the C8-Pro volumes.
When you are dealing with MOQs (minimum order quantities) it's better to consolidate the hardware where possible.
The C-8 Pro is currently the only hub available. At this time, there are no plans to manufacture additional hub versions, as our priority is to continue expanding and refining the capabilities of the C-8 Pro.
Yes! There's a lot of there there, fertile ground to grow a lot!
