Hubitat becoming unresponsive (despite apparently being on)

Hi,

I have a Habitat C7 running the latest platform version 2.3.5.152. Over the last month or two, I've been noticing something that's never happened before - Hubitat is becoming unresponsive. All of the connected accessories go offline, I cannot access it via the static IP address, etc. The light on the front of the box stays lit (and green) so it appears everything is working. Only thing that seems to work is pulling the power, waiting, the plugging back it. Once it reboots, everything is fine again until the same thing happens again.

I've not made any changes to my configuration recently. Are there any known issues? I read a similar post mentioning "jumbo ethernet frames" (which I'd never previously heard of) but this is a recent development on Hubitat and I've not made any changes in my internet setup in a very long time. Prior to this, Hubitat has been very stable.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Your Hubitat likely has a corrupt database. You should do a Soft Reset followed by restoring a backup as described in the Hubitat documentation.

@aaiyar, thanks so much for the advice. I've gone through the docs & done a soft reset and backup restore. Up and running again. Fingers crossed it will fix the issue. I appreciate your help!

Do you do a graceful shutdown before you unplug?
They say that's advisable to avoid database corruption.

Presumably not, since the OP reported being unable to access the hub interface.

@raevengel if this happens again, before pulling the power cord, see if you can access the hub diagnostic tool. Sometimes that continues to function even when the hub otherwise appears to have frozen.

@marktheknife is exactly right. I have no way to get to the main interface for a graceful shutdown, despite the fact that the green light appears to show that HE is working correctly. I don't unplug other than for an issue like this. Otherwise, it's only rebooted etc via updates or the interface.

Are you saying that I can likely still access the Hub Diagnostic Tool at [myip}:8081 - even though the main hub interface isn't working? If I can still access the Diagnostic Tool, would I simply be trying a reboot there or is there something else I should do? So far, everything is still up and running since the soft reset and restoring a previous backup - though I don't think it's typically gone offline yet. Seems to happen after a couple of days. I'm hoping the reset fixed things but I'll definitely try accessing the Diagnostic Tool should it happen again (before unplugging)..

It’s possible, there are situations in which the hub’s main interface goes down but the diagnostic tool continues to run. Not a guarantee, but it’s usually worth a shot.

From there, you can try to reboot the hub, or perform a soft reset. There are some additional details re: the diagnostic tool at the hub documentation article I linked to above.
