Hubitat app not updating geofence

The last two or three weeks or so, the presence portion of our apps have become completely unreliable. They were working great but all of the sudden, they don't update anymore. Lately, my wife will get home around 8pm and it will update around 3am (which turns all the outside lights on and wakes us up). It's the newer app running on Android. I've done the whole setting thing of unrestricted battery usage, background activity/data, prevent inactivity permission, etc.

Opening the app does not change the status. The only way to get it to update is to go into the app on the individual device and adjust the geo fence size. Once the circle is changed, it registers the device as present. The apps are updated to the latest version. Anyone else having a similar issue?

I had the same problem and symptoms throughout September and part of October. I modified every battery and location permission that I could find and nothing helped. I uninstalled and reinstalled, but that didn't help either.

In mid October, it started to become 98% reliable. I can't be certain if that coincided with an app update, because I had updated a few times previously without any improvements.

Anyway I am currently using version 2.0.6 (276) with great success. I am hesitant to make any future updates, for fear of the problem returning.

When I was having the problem, I discovered that if I opened Google maps on the phone, Hubitat would update immediately. You could try that as a test if you have the same problem that I did.

It is oddly interminttent. It's been working since shortly after I posted this so I haven't been able to test the google maps attempt. As of this week though, it's back to being unreliable. Apps are updated to the current version, battery settings are unrestricted, permissions are set to not be revoked under any circumstance, etc. It never registered Monday evening when she returned and updated at 503am Tuesday morning (which of course turned all the outside flood lights on waking us up). Last night I finally caught it where we were both available and I could test some things. I opened google maps and it did not update her location. I opened the hubitat app and it still didn't update despite showing her inside the fence (see screenshot). I rebooted the hub (which I didn't think would help since it seems to be an issue with her phone/app) and it didn't update either.

Ultimately, I restarted her phone and it updated her location inside the fence. That would make sense due to it basically refreshing everything as the app started. It's just odd. There's no pattern, no reason it doesn't work. The app clearly sees she's inside the fence, but says at the bottom, "out of geofence." I just don't know what else to do.

I originally thought that the map would show my current location. But by observation I learned that it only shows the geofence location that I established. In fact the title above the map says Geofence.

In other words, that map will never change, no matter where you are. So it would be incorrect to assume that it is "showing her inside the fence".

As mentioned in my earlier post, I had the same problem for months before it seemed to resolve itself. During my troubleshooting I used a "Fake GPS" app from the Google Play Store. This app allows me to choose any location on the Earth, and that location will be reported to any app that uses GPS, such as Google Maps, and Hubitat App. Perhaps that app can also assist you in troubleshooting rather than driving to and from your home.
