Hub won't display hub shutdown confirmation

Usually when a back up isn't complete, a shut down of the hub rectifies the situation.

I have tried repeatedly to shut down the hub and the screen remains frozen on "Hub shutdown in progress. Do not unplug the hub until a confirmation appears here.". No matter how long I wait 15 minutes or more the screen stays frozen on that message (the progress wheel still spins).

I eventually unplug, but it does not reset the z-wave radio as needed to get everything working again.

How long is a reasonable amount of time to wait for a shut down. Can I do something to facilitate the shutdown and get the appropriate shut down message.

Have you tried a different browser?

I've tried it from my tablet using Safari and on my Android using Chrome.

What color is the hub LED when you go to unplug it?

I don't know, I shut down remotely and use a wifi plug after shutdown. I will be on site tomorrow and can try again and look.

It seems to reboot ok but won't follow the shutdown protocol. Until I resolve this the Lock code Manager is inoperative.

Programmatically the hub itself can’t send a “I’m shutdown” because it’s actually shutdown and cant actually communicate to anything. My gut says there is some browser code like JS that changes to the shutdown “page” once it looses comms to the hub. It sounds like this may not be triggering. The LED’s on the hub would be a confirmation, a ping test will let you know when networking gets shutdown.

I tried again to shut the hub down from my Android phone and this attempt was successful. I did get the display that the hub was shut down. Since then my zwave issues have been resolved.

I would still like to know what is a reasonable time limit that I should use to confirm that the hub has shut down.

My issue is now resolved since after approximately 8 attempts the hub shut down per what is expected.

In general, the hub only needs a minute or two to shut down.

If I need to shut down remotely I use a Ping app on my phone and ping the hub’s IP address to confirm no response before killing the power to the hub.

If I wait for say 2 minutes after having sent the shut down command and I don't get the shutdown confirmation, the hub does not seem to properly turn ON the zwave accessory. I know this because the lock manager doesn't work. But if I get a shut down confirmation it appears to me that it has shut down properly and this swave operates as it should I power up.
Each time I powered up the hub after not receiving a confirmation of shut down, lock manager was inoperative, I could not update codes. But once the hub shuts down correctly and the shut down confirmation is received, lock code manager works again.

This situation usually happens after the installation of N update.

@ritchierich Please explain how you ping the hub remotely. How do you ping a local IP address remotely?

I have a VPN server setup on my Unifi UDM SE router so I establish a VPN connection first and then I use the Ping Lite app on my Apple iPhone.

Per the question about remote pinging local IPs and @ritchierich's response about VPNs, many routers natively support setting up a VPN, and there are also options like TailScale that are based on the excellent WireGuard VPN and is pretty easy to set up.

Once you have secure remote access to your home network when you're away you'll wonder how you ever survived w/out it.

If it is a second home, a site-2-site VPN is nice to have.
