Hub Problems

Have had a Hubitat Hub for years and have never really had a problem... until now. Currently running a C8 with latest software.

A couple of months ago, we lost power several times within an hour during a storm. Since then, my Hub has had nothing but problems. I restored from a Cloud Backup, but the problems continue. By doing a power off, it will be stable for a day or so, but then the problems return.

  • My Groups (of lights) stopped working. No errors. Logs show nothing. But they stopped working turning lights on/off as they have been doing for years.
  • Getting random resets every few days.
  • The resets usually include being notified (by Rule) that the Hub changed to Away mode.
  • Mode changing from Away mode to non-Away mode all by itself.
  • Another Rule notification said my Hub was reporting a "null" every few hours. This continued for days until I powered off the Hub.

I am thinking a Hub reset is in order, but I have never done that with a Hubitat. Can I do a full factory reset and then do a restore from the cloud so that I don't have to rebuild my entire network/Rules/etc.?

stopped working.

Try a reboot with a database rebuild.

No reason to do a factory/full reset unless you’re getting rid of the hub.

However if you haven’t tried a soft reset, that’s probably worth doing.

ETA: Or a reboot with database rebuild, as @thebearmay just suggested. Either should have a similar effect (since it’s the database rebuild that occurs after a soft reset that may help).

If you are still having issues after the DB rebuild, you might want to consider enabling debug logs on the app / device that is not behaving as expected. You should have logs.

Well I did the Reset with Database Rebuild.

Then I also checked the logs, but I wasn't really sure which specific log to check because I am having weird behavior all over the system. Checked the Hub Events. And I could see where the Hub Mode changed to Away and then Rebooted at 4:30AM. That was no help as I already knew that. Then, i looked at the Live Logs, which I rarely look at because the data is usually coming fast and furious. But this time, I found of 2 of my Konnected devices were sending Open then Close signals to the Hub many times per second. Device Stats showed they were using 85% of the resources. So fast that the Log did not even contain all of the data. That is, there would be an Open event then 5 Close events before the next Open event. I adjusted (they use analog "pots") those 2 Konnected devices to properly record Open and Close, and the log entries for those 2 devices has stopped.

Is it possible that the behavior of these 2 devices was causing problems all over the system?

Yes.

Your power outage may have caused a poor/intermittent connection at the pot wiper arm, Moving it may have "cleaned" that and resolved your problem. My hot water heater setting dial occasionally gets stupid and needs to be rotated back and forth over its set point.

Yes, it is completely possible. I had one sensor that when in the active state would cause a lot of my other zigbee devices to not work correctly along with other items. Each environment is different but this could definitely cause you problems.
