HP Slate 21 pro replacement?

I have an old HP Slate 21 Pro. It's basically a giant touchscreen Android tablet running 4.x. It's old, and needs to be replaced. I use it on the countertop in the dining room to display camera feeds and dashboards for HA.

Are there any Chromebook products out there like this? Since the newer stuff will run Android apps, a Chromebook would be perfect for this, but all I can find is smaller screens and laptop format.

There's the Google Pixel Slate but it's pricey.

In US? Today is a good day. Many onSale.

Tablet w/o Keyboard:

Of course, there is the new HP chrome book (refurbished):

Android is also a way to go (but I am not sure about your video display needs. If in a browser, any android should work. There are a lot of android under $150. Sort of pick your size.

Final option would be an Amazon Fire Tablet (using Silk browser. Not sure if it would work well.

All of those have tiny screens in comparison to my HP Slate though. That thing has a 21" screen. I'm looking for something that can sit on the countertop with a large touchscreen.

I know it's possible to install Chromium on a Raspberry Pi. Android on a Pi 3 is absolutely horrible. But maybe Chromium on a Pi 4 would give decent performance. If so, I could possibly pair that up with one of these:

I could always get an AIO PC. But, the ability to run Android apps and use widgets is pretty important as this has worked out very well so far for building a nice interface for home automation.

Interesting idea. Try the below as a stick. (I have the Window's version, you plug into HDMI and USB (for power). Hooked up to an ASUS monitor (not touchScreen). It works great.

I have been a long time Linux user but recently got a Windows PC for fun. I installed Bluestacks to install and transfer Android Apps that wouldn't show up for my Chromebook. I am amazed the Android apps work so well on a Windows PC.

However, It is not perfect. So, even with good apps like Bluestacks, there may be some problems.

If everything you want can run on android, there are android versions of the single-stick PCs out there.

Yeah, I just don't want a windows box, at all. I have one for Steam games for the kids, and that's enough. I've been a unix guy since 1992.

Understand. I used mine as a pc server for devices I could not control directly via SmartThings and Hubitat. It is now redundant to my laptop.

@zarthan I'm not sure I'm parsing this correctly. Did you just say you installed Windows for fun????

Argggh. I turn my Windows "gaming box" on every now and then, and one I get past the "fun" of Windows update, antivirus updates, various"helper" app updates, then start Steam and wait for it to update...I've had all the fun I can take! Lol

Enjoy...I'm sticking with Mint. :slightly_smiling_face:

I have been a full-time Linux user for more than 25 years. I got an extra NUC and didn't use it for the intended purpose so . . . fun. I don't need or depend on it so I don't really care if it has issues. Installing Bluestacks was worthwhile though since it does emulate a phone so Android apps that may not be available for other platforms can easily be installed and copied off.
