At the top of this page you should see a link to the hub documentation, which covers all kinds of useful topics in detail for those just starting out.

Four pieces of advice:
(1) put your hub on an uninterruptible power supply (“UPS”). Otherwise, power failures could corrupt your hub’s database.
(2) when you shut down your hub, do it cleanly (settings, shutdown).
(3) when you remove power from your hub, do it at the wall, not at the micro USB connector, which is fragile and can break the solder joints to the PC board.
(4) backup your hub before and after making changes (adding/removing devices, updating firmware or drivers or apps) and download the backup to your computer. (Settings, backup and restore).
