I just got my tags yesterday and was playing around with them. I have a couple vlans setup on my network as well as a guest network. Based on my firewall rules you need to be on my IOT (hubitat) or main network to connect to the local endpoint to trigger a rule. I wasn't able to trigger the rules on my guest network, or when disconnected. Network segmentation does provide a small amount of security. Using a NFC tag to connect to guest network really adds a cool factor, and you aren't giving up your network password.
