How to determine how my 3 way switches are wired?

Code in the US does not dictate wire color so your mileage will vary based on the electrician who wired the switches.

I found the wiring diagrams at this site to be very helpful when I first started installing my own smart switches. I had very little background knowledge on electrical wiring.

Okay, that is what I had initially thought. I think I just read to much into what you were saying about the color of the wires. For the switch in the 2 gang box, the line wire will either be the white or the red wire coming from the first switch, depending on the state of the first switch.

zooZ support got it figured out for me. It was pretty simple actually. If you look at the diagram I drew above, I took the black wire coming from 1 and disconnected it from line and connected it to the load going into 2. Then I connected the Zen26 to line. Then I connected the white wire coming from 1 to load and the red wire to traveler. Then I connected the Zen26 to neutral.
