How Do You Automate Your.... Life... (Regular Tasks, etc)?

To ride on the inspirational curtails of @daniel.winks ....

How do you you automate your life, whether it be through use of (now traditional) AI or otherwise...? Alternatives could include @ritchierich 's Google Calendar (which I am definitely going to install and setup for the coming NRL season  ).

But can include other options...

One of the automations my bride likes best is the daily traffic check starting 1Β½ hours before the commute. It's accompanied by colored lighting, announcements, notifications and, if all of these are missed, the bathroom lights blinking when it's time to leave.

It feels ... agrieved..... Not sure if that is a word... As we (Australia) enter a world of "married at first sight", I expect we we can accept.... a lot....

As I already mentioned in a few previous posts as of today everything is 100% automated. All critical integrations are 100% local. There are only2-3 "nice to have" automations are still cloud-based because there is no open API is available (no clods are welcome in my environment). The driving force for all these automations is a LASYNESS. Even pushing a button is not very velcome and to...o annoyng. And I am not using any Voice Control because as of today Voice Control is cloud-based. So everything is driven by strategically placed sensors. But sure, just in case everything could be manually controlled. This was a requirement from my wife. BTW, WAF is very high.

I wrote drivers to read the US NOAA weather--so I get colored lights for rain/snow/storm&tornado watches/warnings. Plus some announcements for tornado warnings.

When I unlock my doors, they recognize the person by the code and greet the person. And, turn on the lights, unlock the desired inside doors.

When I go to bed, one button turns off all the lights, arms the alarm, locks all the doors.

When I open the bedroom door to go to the restroom at night--it brings the lights up to dim. When I then shut it, they slowly go off after a minute.

I can set "alarms" that start by slowly brightening the lights--then every 10 minutes, start making different sounds once a minute (clicks, ding-dongs, then "get your butt out of bed" ).

When I leave, I tap a button that opens the garage door. When I shut the garage door, it arms the system & turns off all the lights.

When I open outside doors, the outside lights get brighter (at night).

My outside lights come on at sunset/off at sunrise. Inside lights rather randomly come on and go off to mimic when I'm home.

I have a virtual "vacation mode" switch. When on, the HVAC uses warmer/colder temps to save money. The water heater is turned off. When the alarm is enabled, the water valve is shut off

In addition to the weather colors, during holidays, the outside lights show special colors.

If I want to chill on the patio with a fire in the firepit, I tap a button on the way out the door and it dims the lights so they are perfect for that.

I have a tic-tac-toe game (I wrote the driver for that, too) on my chimney. Anybody with a link to the dashboard can play it.

I have a special dashboard for my emergency contacts. They can type a message and it will blast across my speakers. For emergencies when I'm sleeping and my phone is off (of course, my doofus friend blasted my butt out of bed early one morning for s&gs-- I was PISSED).

And more.

I use this nearly every day. It monitors my work schedule (day and night shifts) and notifies me near the end of my shift to remote start my truck if the temperature is below 48 degrees. This app is awesome.

I also use this app every day.
However, it's a different type of usage.
I use to setup a "gmail" type of device for notifications - works beautifully[RELEASE] Google Calendar, Task, and Gmail Search and Gmail Notification Device

@sburke781 thank you for calling out GCal Search! My family lives by our Google Calendars so we have this automate many things:

  • Wake Up Alarms: Kids mostly use this to set wake ups before work, class, etc where HE automations blast music on stereos, Amazon Echos, and turn on lights. Occasionally my wife and I use it as well.
  • US Postal Service and Trash Collection Holidays - I have a "mailbox alert" app that notifies my family and a bunch of neighbors when mail arrives and I also send trash collection or holiday reminders the morning of based on the US Holiday Google calendar
  • Vacation - certain automations are restricted when my vacation switch is on based on a calendar entry
  • Party Cool Down House - several hours before a "party" calendar event, my house will start cooling down so guests don't have to deal with a hot house when they arrive
  • Guest - disable certain automations when we are having a guest stay at the house
  • Parent business travel - certain automations that depend on presence of both parents will continue to fire if one of us is traveling on business

Those are just some of the calendar search examples I have setup.
