How do the new radios in the C8 affect existing Zigbee and Z-wave devices?

The C8 hub has newer Zigbee and Z-wave radios, but what does that mean for existing devices? For example, if I have a Zigbee 3.0 device that gets migrated over from my C7, is it still going to be connected using ZHA?
For Z-wave, does the new chip improve support for smartstart or the various security levels? If so, I assume I would need to exclude & re-join a device to change from an S0 to S2 connection?

Z-Wave is pretty much the same.. Just faster processor/more ram.. It runs the same application version as the C-7.. It does have slightly better range with the chip.. But the external antenna makes a HUGE difference.

Yes. Existing devices should continue to work as they do today, but with the advantage of a better antenna. Many of us have noticed LQI numbers look lower on the C8 post-migration so don't try to compare C7 LQI to C8 LQI. My conclusion is that it's a reporting difference and not meaningful. My incost and outcost numbers were good on the C7 but are all 1s on the C8.

The C8 zigbee radio also has adjustable output power and receiver sensitivity. Power level 8 is the equivalent of the C7. I'd suggest leaving it there if it works for you since increasing power also increases receiver sensitivity which may also make it more sensitive to interference, though when I played with the power I did not notice any interference.

I'm seeing this too. LQI values look the same to me as they were before, but inCost and outCost are all 1s.

Shame my radio migration was a failure, but this is my Xiaomi hub and these things are a nightmare. When I realised I'd need to re-pair the majority of them I reset the radio to clear out the IEEE number from my C7 and started again. Once I'd paired them back up and fixed hub mesh (I came straight from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5) everything was fine.

Nice that all the device entries and rules moved over fine.

@mike.maxwell is this correct? Would ZigBee 3.0 devices stay in "ZHA" profile or will it all move to 3.0 as it's the hub that decides it right?

There's a big miss conception about zigbee 3.0 vs zha, in practical terms the differences only appear during inclusion, the application stack (clusters and commands) are the same, there's no difference from a driver perspective.
So there is really nothing that the hub needs to decide in regards to a migration.

I thought it also has something to do with how things route aswell?

My understanding was it was abit like DALI to DALI2 commands are the same and work as they did before. But more regimented in its structure of command and additional commands are possible if all devices are 3.0
