How can I Limit room access in homekit?

I want to limit my kids access to only their rooms devices. Is there a way to do this in homekit?

Yes. This has to be done using permissions from within Apple Home, when you share your home.

Please follow the directions here:

@aaiyar I have seen where you can limit user access to cameras but haven’t seen the ability to limit access to specific devices or rooms in the Home app. Unless I missed this feature.

I tried doing this a while ago for my children but couldn’t find a way and ended up spinning up another Home with limited switches for my kids.

I’ve never tried it, but the article on Apple Support gives the impression that access to individual accessories can be controlled during sharing.

I thought about doing this as well. The problem is that you’d need to go to their “Home” to control their devices as well because you can only have a specific device belong to a single home, correct?

Not to mention you’d have to have multiple homebridge’s because you can only install the homekit app once per hubitat hub, correct?

That setting is for all accessories to give the user the ability to change properties of the accessories. ( like add/remove, name, etc….)

I have Homebridge running on my NAS for most everything that my wife and I use and then I used the inbuilt HomeKit app for my kids. I created a new Home for the kids had to move one of my apple TVs to their new “home” so things can be controlled remotely too. Some of the same switches can be found in both homes.

Since I have both homes on my phone, now when I ask Siri to turn on a switch she asks me which home and that is annoying. Wish there was better control of devices within the home app. I know there are AppStore apps that integrate with HomeKit and may provide advanced features but I never put much time in exploring those options.
