HomeKit integration

HomeKit integration is running and works great on my iPhone allowing me to control my IKEA lamps, on/off rgb, and so on, but if I try to add Hubitat on Homekit to another iPhone it tells me that it is not possible because it is already associated, is there a solution? Thanks

You don't need to add Hubitat to Homekit again, since it already added.

What exactly are you trying to do? I assume you mean that you want to add access to your existing home in Homekit to another phone.

Yes, when I try to add via qr code the accessory, in this case the hub in HomeKit on another iPhone I get the message *that it is already in use on other device(my iPhone ), I would like to be able to connect the gateway on both iPhones, I hope I explained myself

*Accessory already in other home

Yes, but as I said, you don’t need to add the Hubitat Hub on the 2nd phone. It is already added to HomeKit since it was added using your phone.

What you need to do on the 2nd phone is add your existing Home in HomeKit. Once you do that all of your accessories, including Hubitat, should be on that phone.

@elcamunoreal - Just to add to what @jkudave has said - if the other phone is not your own and is logged into a different iCloud account (a family member for instance), you need to share your Home from your phone to that user. To do that:

  • Open the Home app
  • Click the 3 dot menu in the upper right corner
  • Click Home Settings
  • Click Invite People
  • Then enter the iCloud account e mail of the phone you want to add it to

What @jkudave and @johnwill1 said.

Any HomeKit accessory can only be added to a single home. This isn’t a Hubitat limitation. It is how HomeKit is designed.

But you can share a Home as they both indicated.

Hi guys and thanks for the technical assistance, everything is ok, I forgot to report that I cannot share my house, Apple says that I must have an Apple TV or a HomePod, my wife has the iOS 18.3.2 update while on my phone I have 18.4, on her phone she uses HomeKit and on mine I have to use the Hubitat app, I dont think that this depends on the fact that I am in Italy.

Without Apple TV or HomePod, I believe you only have local control (within the house). That is also the reason why you cannot "share" as there is no hub. I don't use the built in integration (I use Homebridge) but my wife and I (and certain guests) can use Apple Home app and the associated accessories.

Correct.

Hi I installed home bridge v2, added the devices but now I'm stuck, I see some generated code but I don't know where and how to use it, I read on the developer's page that there is a plugin ui to easily manage it, but how do I install it ? is it necessary, the npm install commands where do I enter them considering that on Hubitat there is no prompt or terminal.I'm missing some steps.

NOTICE: I highly recommend using homebridge-config-ui-x to manage

With Hubitat's Homekit integration, everything is built in to Hubitat and you need nothing else. However Homebridge V2 that you've installed there cannot work standalone; it is an integration that connects to Homebridge running on another always on machine. In my case I have Homebridge running on a Raspberry Pi. The information from the generated config in the Hubitat Homebridge V2 integration gets entered into the UI for Homebridge on the other device that runs it.

In summary, you need to either install the main Homebridge app on another always on device OR delete the Homebridge V2 integration and just use the Hubitat built in integration which can do everything.

I thank you and now it is clearer, at this point I will try to set/understand Hubitat as best as I can for dimmer and color management with ikea lights (as is done with HomeKit) today I can only turn off/on

If the device is classed as a dimmer and can colour change you should be able to do it in Homekit and how the device operates will usually depend on where you tap the tile in the app:

  • Tap the bulb icon on the tile to turn the device on/turn off
  • Tap the right hand side of the tile to reveal the pop up dimmer and (if the device supports it) the colour control icons

You can get a refurbed homepod mini on ebay for around $60 bux. (I have 7 of them) which can act as a homekit hub. They're also good for Hubitat announcements as well.

Hi John HomeKit works perfectly on my wife's iPhone, on/off, dimmers, colors, not being able to share HomeKit I have to use Hubitat app, which is more complex so I need to figure out how best to set it up

Thanks for reply but I prefer to have only one device, I think Hubitat is great but are necessary more time to understand

Just to point out the benefit(s) of the Hompod minis as @rlithgow1 has suggested using:

  • It acts as a hub allowing you to use the Home app on your iPhone while away from home
  • It will allow the 'Home' to be shared so that both you and your wife can use the Home app on your phones for control
  • There's absolutely nothing to set up on the HomePod mini...plug it in, add it to the iCloud account that currently has the Home (your wife's) and that's it. You don't have to do anything with it but it adds those abilities to control the Home while away and share it.

You're already using your phone as a home hub, using a hompod mini makes a permanent one that can allow you to control things outside of your network.

Besides what @johnwill1 has indicated, there's one other major advantage to using a Home hub (Homepod or ATV4). You get to use the Apple Home app for geofencing with Hubitat. Apple Home's geofencing is very reliable and very accurate - in my opinion, this alone makes adding an Homepod mini (or other Home hub) highly desirable.

Yep, this. Heck, that's the only main reason I started using HomeKit for
