Homekit Ecobee4 - Pairs (maybe?), but no devices

Hi,

I just upgraded to a C8 Pro today using the cloud migration. I had the Ecobee integration setup and working, and decided to try to replace that with the Homekit controller integration on the C8 so it didn't rely on the cloud. My Ecobee 4 thermostat was unpaired, so I put it in pairing mode. Hubitat lit up with the option to pair it, so I clicked the button to pair it, typed in the code from the Ecobee, and hit start pairing. The Hubitat screen says paired successfully and the Ecobee screen confirms it paired successfully before fading to its home screen. After pairing, when I return to the Homekit controller screen it shows the Ecobee as paired elsewhere. I still have the same number of devices as before pairing, so no devices have been created. I decided to leave the live logs screen open while pairing... I'm not seeing any logs from Homekit in the live logs screen while pairing. No success, failure, or a single message of any kind from the Homekit controller. I repeated the pairing 3 times with the exact same behavior and results every time. I confirmed I can pair to Homekit on my phone successfully, so I don't think it's the thermostat.

In the forums some have reported success so I know it works. I have found a few posts where some have reported the same problem I have. Tomorrow I'll try to power cycle the Ecobee and see if that helps.

Anyone have any other ideas?

I had a sense of deja vu. Retention span is very short these days for me.

As in my post below, how about removing the Ecobees from HomeKit AT THE STATS, and then re-pair? I also removed and re-installed the HomeKit integration first.

Thanks for the idea, but I already tried that the second time time I tried to pair it. I had to go to the Ecobee screen to retrieve the pairing code, so when it failed I was already in front of the Ecobee and used the screen to remove it as I was already there.

I'm going to remove it, power cycle the Ecobee, reboot the Hubitat, then try to add it again.

Tagging @mavrrick58, because I recall he had issues pairing an ecobee4 thermostat to Hubitat. While this was several platform versions ago, perhaps he has some tips to help you.

I removed the Ecobee from Homekit at the t-stat, then rebooted both the Ecobee and Hubitat. Tried pairing again.... same behavior. Both sides say pairing completed successfully, but I get the crossed off handshake icon on the Hubitat and no new devices.

You tried removing/reinstalling the integration first?

I hadn't because this is a brand new hub... the first time I tried setting it up. I can give that a try too.

Still the same... both sides say success but Hubitat shows the crossed off handshake and no new devices.

I was able to get it paired by performing a factory reset of the thermostat and not pairing the external sensors to it. In that state it would add connect fine and seemed to work. Once i paired the additional sensors it would fall on it's face and quit working.

Unfortunately i never got in a state that i was satisfied with, and have sense reverted back to Ecobee Suite.

I feel pretty confident the probem I was having was related to one of the sensors I have. When I got my Ecobee, it came with one external sensor and then I bought two additional ones. I am fairly certain the sensor that came with it is causing issues somehow during the pairing process.

If you know which of the add on sensors came with it you may be able to factory reset it and then just not repair that sensor and see how it goes.

I also use custom programs/modes and unfortunately the only thing i have found that supports that well is Ecobee Suite which is also why i couldn't fully switch over. I was hoping there was something in the Homekit integration that would help with that, but it is close but not completely there for me.

The factory reset isn't hard to do, just take some notes on how you have your schedules setup with what temps.

4 posts were split to a new topic: Discussion on integrating HomeKit devices via HA/HADB versus directly into Hubitat

Let's leave this topic focused on getting ecobee4 thermostats integrated into Hubitat via HomeKit.

It may be worth seeing if @gopher.ny can take a look at this. I now he was engaged in the thread i started when i was digging into this. Maybe having more occurances of the issue will help show it is more widespread then just my Ecobee.

@vitaliy_kh i think part of the issue with homekit in general is building out the drivers. I know they are working on it, but it will take a little time for all the drivers to get fleshed out. I know Hubitat staff put a fair amount effort into the Ecobeee driver and when it was working appeared very functional. More functional then using it through HA for my case at least.

I'm not interested in the factory reset. I have three remote sensors I purchased as well. I also have triggers that depend on the temperature data being reported from them. So if all of them can't be used then I'll just revert back to the Ecobee online integration. Sounds like the Homekit integration may be just on the raw side of fully cooked. If anyone wants to follow up I'm willing to do some troubleshooting, but otherwise I'll consider reverting to the Ecobee suite integration the official answer.
