HomeKit Bridge Question

Hey everyone, I hope you don’t mind a general question- I think it’ll be easy for most to answer

Trying to wrap my head around the Honekit Bridge functionality

Does it by default work with ALL HomeKit devices?

Or is it similar to Matter where it creates the capability, but actual compatibility with a device is dependent on an existing driver also being available

I’m hoping I can finally FINALLY connect the one remaining smart device to hubitat natively - my U by Moen shower controller

Thanks for any insight!

It should work with most, assuming you're able to get them connected (that also should work with most), but it does need a driver, just like any other device. There aren't any HomeKit valve drivers, but there are switch and dimmer drivers. I don't know what HomeKit "services" "characteristics" this device exposes, and that would ultimately determine compatibility. If it pairs, however, there's a good chance it could be made to work with the right driver and enough logging to help a cooperative staff member.

Thank you! This makes sense

In a huge tinkerer - never learned to code - have successfully made working drivers with ChatGPT (a lot of back and forth - but impressive nonetheless that these talking robots can make this stuff)

Might give this one a shot!

Thanks again for the insight

The Hubitat HomeKit driver format isn't public, is fairly new (and perhaps not yet stable or public for that reason), and I'm actually not sure if some of the methods used would work in user drivers anyway. So, an LLM probably won't be much help. But logs and staff could if you do decide to try! (Unless one of them already happens to have or want one of these...)
