My apologies:
I know that this is really a HomeKit question, but I'm sure that everyone who has a Hubitat-HomeKit bridge has overcome this question.
Question: I have made major changes to the bridge, and it seems to work. I scan the QR code, and I try to "Add Accessory" in HomeKit. It gives me the error message that the accessory is in another Home.
So, I remove the Home app from the IPad, delete the data, and go to the app store and re-install.
Try again, and get the same error message.
How do I overcome that error message in HomeKit, the the bridge is already in a "Home"?
Please provide some more details of what you’ve changed. The above is a bit confusing. The subject mentions HomeBridge, however the body of the post does not…?
So, are you using HomeBridge?
Or, are you using Hubitat’s built-in HomeKit integration?
It sounds like you may have multiple Apple Home “homes”, and one of them still has the HomeKit accessory connected that you are trying to add to your current Apple Home “home”. Does this make sense? If so, switch to the other “home” in the Apple Home app on your phone, and remove the accessory. Then switch to your current Apple Home “home” and try to add the accessory.
- I was making a number of changes to the data being passed over to HomeKit.
- In HomeKit, I deleted the accessory which was the bridge data being passed over. (Since I intended to replace it completely with the new bridge data).
- In HomeKit, I pressed the + (Add Accessory), and then used the camera to get the QR code for the bridge. That's when I got the error message.
- So, I removed the app from the IPad, and deleted it's data. I then went to the App store and installed it again. Went into the app and tried to add the QR code, but I got the same error message.
I don't have any other Home app on the IPad, so why can't I add the new QR code?
Could it be that there exists a Home app on someone's IPhone, and that's why I get the message?
Not sure. It sounds like the Hubitat HomeKit "Accessory" did not get removed properly for some reason. Have you rebooted all of your Apple Home Hub compatible devices (i.e. Apple TVs, HomePod Minis, HomePods, Macintosh computers, iPads, iPhones, etc...) on your home network? Really seems like something is holding on to the old Accessory for some reason.
You could also try the Nuclear Option.
In the Hubitat HomeKit App's Advanced Options
Since your Hubitat devices are no longer in Apple Home, there should be no reason to be concerned with the 'nuclear option', right? This will generate a new QR code which you can then try using to add the Accessory again to Apple Home.
I actually did this bridge around a year ago.
(I should have been more explicit before: yes, it's using HomeBridge, not the built in Hubitat app.
The reason: I wanted to bring via the bridge two RING camera feeds .)
At that time, it was possible to use an IPad instead of a HomePod, or Apple TV.
Since I removed the Home app from the IPad and re-installed it, the only other place where it could be would be on an IPHone in the house. Could that be it?
Maybe?
I am sure you can change the HomeBridge QR code as well. Have you tried doing so?
Thanks.
That's my next approach.
I didn't know that you could do that in Homebridge.
