I'm starting a new topic on this subject because I know Hubitat has had several updates since the last time this came up.
I have two Kwikset 910 Z-wave locks. One I was able to pair fine with no problems. The other one pairs, but then I cannot control it. In Dashboard, despite having selected the "lock" template, it gives me an "unknown" icon. I verified that "Generic Z-wave lock" was selected as a driver. Both locks are on the first floor, my Hubitat is on the second floor... so neither is particularly close to the Hubitat. Is there something else I need to be doing to get this to work? This was working fine before migrating from Wink, so I know the lock is not the issue.
In HE is recommended to have a repeater that supports beaming. Seems to solve our communications errors. I can say that I have an aeotec repeater 6 and after troubleshooting placement, it's fixed my lock issues. Locks are particularly picky on hubitat.
I forgot to mention that I do have an Aeotec range extender 6 - got it precisely because I thought it would fix this problem, but it doesn't seem to. How does one troubleshoot placement? Do I just unplug and replug over and over until it works? Because I was made to understand that changing the position of the extender would cause the Z-wave mesh network to be rebuilt and might not be stable for a few days.
Could you post a screenshot of the device page for both locks please? The part I would like to see to debug this issue is under the "Device Details" section toward the bottom of the page.
Notice how your backdoor lock has paired securely? In the data section it says, "zwaveSecurePairingComplete: true"?
Your front door lock has not paired securely. Hence you cannot control it with Hubitat (locks and garage door openers must be paired securely to the z-wave controller).
Here's the larger issue. During secure z-wave pairing, the controller uses a low power radio mode (sometimes called whisper mode) to reduce the possibility of snooping. So secure devices have to be paired directly (and very close to the controller). Even though the distance might seem the same to you, your front door lock is unable to pair securely.
Here's what I recommend:
Exclude the front door lock.
Bring it close to the Hubitat (within a foot) (or vice-versa) and repeat the pairing.
Once it has paired, move it to its final location and run a z-wave repair. Confirm that it has paired securely from the device page (as indicated above).
Wait a couple of hours and then start using your z-wave devices.
I had to do this for my already installed Kwikset locks (had a long Ethernet cable already!). Before moving Hubitat, be use to issue a power Down command from the system menu. Never just unplug HE, databases can become corrupted if you do.
