Can Hubitat staff help me to extract my rules from a local backup? I have a small number of 4.0 and 5.1 rules. My hub died, would not power on, only five months old, out of warranty. I bought another one (C-8) and restored the backup. I had to recreate various devices and in the process I was not careful to preserve the old device entries in the apps, so I have several broken rules. Rather than try to guess what each broken line is supposed to be, I would like to see the rules, which must be stored in the backup file. Can anyone at support help with this? Thanks.
This is not the kind of thing they tend to do.
But you can more less do it yourself. A soft reset is a safe process as long as you don't reset any radios (otherwise your devices will stop working, even with a restore). So you can just take a backup now, save that file (locally or trust that it will remain on the hub--but I say download it to be safe), restore your current backup, look at whatever rules you want, and then restore the backup you made. Everything will go back to working as it was before, again as long as you didn't reset anything else (did I mention not to reset anything else like the radios?).
While you have the "old" backup on your hub, you have a few options. You can just look at or screenshot the rules you're interested in, but you can also use the App Status page to export any rule you want to have, then use the same technique or the Settings page to import (not restore) the rule on the new hub.
Thanks very much, seems like a doable set of steps. I will have to think about how nervous I am after spending a significant amount of time getting the devices repaired, although I do understand the do not reset the radios comment and why repairing should not be an issue.
A Soft Reset is something everyone should try a time or two before they need it. It works really well and so far, I've never heard of a fail, other than misreading instructions and reseting the radios. Yea, don't do that. It's probable that in your whole life, resetting the radios is something you'll never have a reason to try. Soft Reset, it's kinda fun.
Thanks for confirming that a soft reset is reliable. I managed to reprogram my rules without doing the soft reset. But I will be using the soft reset method in the future for testing new things.
