Having Nest Doorbell play a file over Sonos when rung

I'd like a way to play a Sonos file when someone is at my door. I can play a Sonos mp3 file with all sorts of things in my house, like photoelectric sensors, door contact sensors, motion detectors, buttons etc using Rules. But I'd like Sonos now to go off in when someone pushes the Nest Doorbell to increase the notification ability of their existing eco system and can't figure it out. I'm thinking its going to require a Mimolite or a Ecolink Door Contact sensor somehow. Thanks

Maybe one of these? It's zigbee and on the list of compatible devices for HE, plus only $5.

I just purchased one of those. Works great!

Thanks! I'll give it a try

That sensor is not going to work with a Nest Doorbell. The Nest only gets its power from the hard-line in the house. It does not send a signal on the line when the doorbell is pressed.

The Sage sensor only works with AC voltage that is in your doorbell circuit. The other sensors your mention all work with DC current, so they would not work with the hardwired doorbell.

Did you ever consider the Aeotec Doorbell 6?

It still triggers a relay that activates the doorbell. How else would it ring your doorbell?

The Nest Video doorbell? It doesn't work with your traditional hardwired bells. It only works with their wireless indoor bell.

I think you're confusing Nest and Ring.

On the Nest Hello support page is shows connecting to a doorbell:

Correct, I have a sensor wired in and it works with both HE and the Nest Doorbell because Nest still uses your old chime. In fact, because the Nest now has just become an expensive ornament, I’m going to sell it and replace it with a cheap camera that talks to MY DVR. Thanks Google, after pointing out that you own what I paid for, there will be no more cloud devices left in my sytem :grinning:
