Harmony Remote Manufacturing, Service and Support Update

They are no longer going to manufacture more remotes

Bollocks! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

IMHO, I guess this means that we Harmony remote customers will have to consider using only entertainment systems with a {very} smart remote or rely on a universally adopted connected control protocol that is compatible with all the connected devices or return to suffer the multiple remote syndrome... :sob:

There's always the crazy expensive Control 4 option...

Or Crestron TSR-310 [Crestron Electronics, Inc.]

Unfortunately, the Harmony was the last of what seems to be a dying breed of prosumer theater remotes. Philips killed the Pronto too, and Sony who made the RMAV line years ago, doesn't do those either.

Smartphones & apps killed the category I guess.

That stinks. I was hoping it was just a rebranding thing. The 650 and elite have been my 'go to' remotes for years. Now the question is how long before they stop "supporting" (updating) the database. :frowning::cry::sob:

Is that crestron the old neeo? What are they charging for it?

Doesn’t savant have one also?

Not as crazy as one could imagine. Not sure what a new MSRP is, but found this on eBay.

I just moved into a house with a C4 system. The SR-260 hard button remote works pretty well. And unlike the Harmony, there is a good path to add non-AV items to the remote. Yes, you need to get an installer involved, but if you have a stable system its not a huge ordeal.

Can control4 integrate with hubitat?

Not directly. There is a C4 MQTT integration (https://www.berto.co.uk) . I am planning on trying it, but have not had a chance to yet.

Thanks for the heads up. Just bought the last elite at my local Best Buy.

It figures; after years of fiddling I finally got my settings dialed in. Anyone had luck with a source for Harmony Ultimate/Harmony Touch batteries? I've got one of each that could use replacing. Seen a few sources on Amazon but I'm always wary of buying Li ion batteries from unknown suppliers.

Bill, can you program it yourself, or must you deal with the installer with every change? I looked at these years ago when my ex destroyed my Harmony 1100, but remember being put off by the installer angle.

God, I despise using my phone to control stuff, especially late at night. "What did that character say? Need to rewind. I guess it's time to unleash the mini-sun into the room."

100% agreed!

There is some flexibility to manage devices, but an installer does need to add devices to the system. I've not yet figured out all my plans, but tentatively plan to keep the AV stuff in C4 where it excels and non-AV on Hubitat and other user-friendly systems and pass a few lighting scenes over to C4.

I hadn't seen that one before. Isn't the worst thing I've ever seen...

I have a Caavo lying around somewhere still too. It actually worked great, but being restricted to 4 HDMI devices was too limiting for me.

Was toying with picking up a SevenHugs remote, but there is too much risk of it dying off since they were acquired by Qorvo.

Yeah, that whole installer angle just kills it for me. If I buy a remote, I want to be able to F it up all on my own, without having to make an appointment! LOL

If I had to guess, a company is bidding on the “hubs” database and a company will make compatible companion remotes
