[GUIDE] Hisense (portable) Air Conditioner, Matter, Alexa, HE, and finally Apple Home with all way control - it can be done

There was a post somewhere about trying to integrate a Hisense (from costco) air conditioner into Hubitat with full, two-way control. Can't track down the post, so here is some information for anyone trying to cut out the ConnectLife app and integrate Hisense "directly" into Hubitat.

(The replies to that post included complicated rules to make the control both ways. This turned out to be much "simpler".)

Alexa

  1. Add the device into Alexa using the Matter code on the side of the unit. Mine was a 8000 BTU portable dual-hose AC from Costco. It was labeled as Matter, Alexa, and Google compatible and also with Wi-Fi. To get it enter pairing mode, press Swing button on the remote 6 times. You should hear a beep each time, and after a few seconds (be patient), it will show 77 on the display. If the unit has a Swing button on it, do it on the unit. Can't be sure exactly what happens if your unit has a Swing button on it.

  2. In the Alexa app, Devices -> + -> Add Device -> Choose Matter under Shortcuts -> Click Yes -> Click Scan QR Code. When asked, give the device a name, it doesn't really matter what you name it here (except if you want to control it using voice commands to Alexa). There might be more steps after this.

  3. After the device is set up, choose the device -> Click the Gear at top right -> Click Other Assistants and Apps -> + (Add another) -> another Matter code will be generated.

Hubitat

  1. In HE, make sure Matter is enabled and add the device: Devices -> Add Device -> Matter -> Copy/paste the Matter code from Step 3

  2. Go through the pairing and naming process. The name here will be used in Hubitat.

  3. Open the Device Details -> Device info (tab) -> Type -> Choose Google Nest Matter Thermostat (yeah, it's not a Google device, but just choose it!) -> Save

  4. Create a thermostat controller and assign the device from Step 6 as the thermostat, an external temperature sensor if you have one, set Idle Method to Control Offset, and enter 6+ degree Control Offset. One reason to create a thermostat controller is because it is not possible to specify the thermostat modes or fan modes in the Google Matter driver, making it difficult to use in rules and Home.

  5. Open the thermostat controller device. Set the Supported Thermostat Modes to: ["off","cool","dry","fan","auto"] (you may have to alter this to match your unit) and Supported Thermostat Fan Modes to: ["auto","high","medium","low"] (again, you may have to modify)

  6. Use the device in Routines, Dashboards, etc.

  7. Share the device to HomeKit/HomeBridge. If using HomeBridge, it's advisable to choose it under Cooling Only thermostats, AND to filter out the Fan capability.

Home App

  1. Assign it to the room you want.

If you go through this and find a missing or incorrect step, please let me know. Originally, I connected the unit through the ConnectLife app. It should not be necessary to do, but I could be wrong.

How do I find if the Hisense HAWU9KR 2.5Kw Air Q Series Split System supports matter? I sent seem to locate that info anywhere. I don't own the system, just shipping around.

I don't see the ConnectLife app being open to integrate to hubitat if the split isn't compatible with matter.

The model you refer to has WiFi, so it should be able to integrate, just not using the method posted above. The method posted is to skip using the ConnectLife app.

I tried to download the manual, but I get autoredirected to the US website. VPNing into AU prevents me from even seeing the hisense website.
