Wondering if there is a way to add Google home mini to Hubitat and play an mp3 file when a trigger occurs.
Yes. Either with the built-in Chromecast integration or with a community app called Cast-Web-API. Use the command "play track". The track will have to be hosted on a web server that is accessible to the mini. Something like GitHub, where the file is accessible directly with a URL. Something like Google Drive will not work. DropBox can work but requires a workaround for the URL to go directly to a download link and not show a splash page. So, there are some limitations. You cannot directly input a file for he mini to play.
Thanks! Github has url links to music?
You can create your own Repo to load them.
The point is, GitHub allows you to use the "raw" url to get direct access to the file with no extraneous "stuff". When you get a link to a file out of Google Drive, it does not go directly to the file but instead a webpage asking how you want to download the file. Such a link will not work to play the track. You need the file directly.
Thanks. Sorry, kinda new to this. Switching over from Wink. Steep learning curve for me.
No worries. If you want some links to "play" with, I will pm you the link to my repo where i have some sounds that I use.

But choosing play has no effect on google home/mini. You need to set it differently (actuator/play custom command/choose file locally or set url)
Semi related ... is there a way to disable the start of cast sound from the Google devices? Kinda ruins the announcement effect.
I think the answer is negative. I read somewhere that the initial google chime is built-in and cannot be deactivated. But Google that again, maybe it's now possible.
I searched for it as well, it’s a bummer. Google is such a PITA. I discovered that the new Minis can’t group with older mini and Google home speaker. Many people are complaining about this online. Jeez.
the new "nest" mini's ? Purchased some old mini's (almost the same price) days ago to match my previous ones. Lucky I am, but didn't know.
Nope. That's a function in Google. The only device that didn't do this was the Chromecast Audio, which they don't make anymore.
@PPz Yea, the new Nest Minis. Got a two pack from Costco for $50 and when grouped with original Home and Mini, the newer Nest minis wouldn’t play. A quick Google search found that this has been a known problem for four months. Google continues to fall behind Amazon. I bought the new minis specifically for announcement purposes for Hubitat. I ended up finding refurbished GEN one minis on eBay for $17. They just arrived today, will set them up soon. @Ryan780 ... that’s a bummer. The sound is truly annoying! And unnecessary!
