I'm trying to sync the Home/Away mode in HE with Google Home for the first time. I created a virtual switch in HE and can select it from the HE device list during the integration process. However, when I try to authorize the switch, GH returns an error that the Hubitat Hub can't be found. I've tried authorizing simple switches and lights but the same error comes up. I've reset the hub but it didn't help. The HE hub is connected to the internet and regularly updates. Any advice?
Are you able to control other HE devices through GH? What platform version are you running?
I'm not able to authorize any HE devices - the same error comes up. I'm on model C-8 running platform version 2.4.2.134.
Just updated to 2.4.2.138. Still get the error 'could not reach hub' after attempting to authorize the switch.
I'm not 100% sure what step you are referring to here... And have a few more questions...
I have a pre-existing setup with the built-in Google Home App installed on one of my HE hubs and HE devices configured in this app so they are available in Google Home. As part of my original setup some years ago now, I would have already configured Hubitat as a service (?) within the Google Home ecosystem (using the Home App on my phone).
With all of that setup I was just able to add a device to the App on my HE hub and see it appear in Google Home, similarly when I removed it from the HE setup.
The documentation for the GH App on HE initially talks about authorizing as being the process of providing GH with access to your hub, then secondly as being the act of selecting from the list of devices on the hub that you have configured in the GH App.
Perhaps it would make it easier to understand where the issue is if you refer to the step in the documentation where you are seeing the error come up? Were you able to get to the point of selecting your HE hub in step 6? Or was it later in the process where you were having difficulty?
Screenshots may also be beneficial, if you are able to capture any.
Going back to your original requirement to allow control of HE modes, did you notice in the App and in the documentation that there is native support for controlling HE modes? So you may not need to create the virtual switches, depending on how you want to use them (perhaps)?
Thank you for your response I am following the instructions. The failure occurs at the step after selecting the desired device from the hub. I believe the native capability you noted only becomes available after one device is authorized in GH.
Attached are some screen shots.
Thanks for clarifying this, and providing the screenshots.
Reading the instructions, it does talk about installing / configuring the GH App on the HE hub after the earlier steps for selecting the hub and devices in GH. Have you also followed this sequence of steps, i.e. have you installed the HE GH App at all on your HE hub, or just focusing on the setup in GH at this stage?
I have also just been able to add devices from my dev hub that did not have GH App installed and it worked as expected (as per the documentation), installing the HE GH App on the HE hub automatically (a nice touch). So it is odd that you cannot...
I didn't see a way to add the GH app to HE as a distinct step before going through the steps on GH to link accounts. Did I miss something?
No, was just wanting to make sure. Might be one for @bobbyD and the team.
How do I get the team to address this?
They monitor various categories, such as this one, plus hopefully by tagging Bobby they will also notice it and hopefully respond with some suggestions.
Thanks for your suggestions. I hope the team picks up on this. I'd really like this to work.
Looks like you already have the GH app installed on your hub. If you don't see any Hubitat devices in your GH, I suggest removing the existing link and/or Google App from both Hubitat and Google side, then try again. Alternatively, you can go to your Hubitat hub, then navigate to Apps. On the Apps page locate Google Home and authorize a new switch then see if it shows up in Google Home.
I see Hubitat devices from the GH side but it won't let me authorize any. After selecting a device, I press authorize, It comes up with the error, "Could not reach Hubitat. Try again."
Dredging this up again. I can't link Hubitat to Google Home Assistant on my phone. I'm prompted for the hub, then the devices (via oauth.hubitat.com), but when I authorize I get a 404 error for URL https://oauth-redirect.googleuserscontent.com : "The requested URL was not found on this server"...
