Good Zigbee Outlet Receptacle as Repeater

I think it’s hardware dependent. Not firmware version. I updated all of mine to the latest version - some were well behaved, while a minority were super-chatty, constantly sending power reports.

The ones that were chatty on HE were the same way when paired to a Securifi Almond 3.

So is this to say that the eWeLink of this MHCOZY relay is the same relative technology/design of all these others?

  • endpointId: 01
  • application: 04
  • manufacturer: eWeLink
  • model: ZB-SW01
  • powerCluster: none

Is that sold by Sonoff? When I go to Sonoff (https://sonoff.tech/products/) and select "Smart Plugs" I don't see anything that looks like this:

I’m NOT wanting a plug-in device, but a wired outlet that is a good Zigbee repeater.

See the first and second posts in this thread.

That is what I understood as well. In Canada the term "Receptacle" would refer to a in-wall outlet and not a plugin outlet. I was surprised with all the responses to your thread suggesting plugin outlets, maybe these terms are understood differently by different people.

Anyway, I dislike the plugin outlets for any location that is visible. I use these receptacles, and find they work as good repeaters:

I do notice mine will send power updates every 3 hours (to the second) even when reporting is disabled. And sometimes the value they send on that trigger is not what is being consumed at that time (0W instead of actual power). Odd.

I bought all mine from Sonoff's official ebay store. So it may not be their branded unit but they were selling them. its a super common unit.

No I would call the them the same as you, but still recommend plugins where you don't mind the "visuals".

  • They're easier to move around when needed. I often find i change the location of sensors or need to relocate things. Plugins are much easier.
  • They're 1/4 the cost of receptacles.
  • Some people have metal wall boxes, making receptacles not a great option.
  • Smart receptacles are often only in white, and only decora style. Some come in ivory or light almond but far less common. For houses without decora everywhere they stand out.
  • I hide plugins behind furniture or in the garage where visuals do not matter as much. In a long hallway I agree that I dislike wallwarts pulling your eye to them...

That’s nothing - the chatty ones were sending reports every 1-3 seconds :grinning:

That is curious. I do have a number or Aqara’s motion and door sensors, and never had an issue with Tradfri repeaters (mostly the plugs, although I do have a couple of standalone). Being a refugee from the Z-wave hell, it’s been time since I enjoy a fully reliable Zigbee network.

It is expensive but I justified that with "I only need one and I really need a repeater."

On another project I needed a Zigbee repeater and opted for a wall switch/dimmer. Only a little cheaper.

For an alternative, checkout the Sinope zigbee outlet. They are modestly less expensive than the Enbrighten/Jasco's (after accounting for the currency exchange rate between Canada and the U.S.), and I find that Sinope's quality is impeccable. Surprised their products aren't more popular in these parts.

I'm in the process of replacing the eWeLink SA-003-Zigbee with Third Reality plugs. My experience is that they for some weird reason loose pairing and I have to hold down the power button until they reset to use them again. They also don't seem to want to route when I look at the zigbee graph. They show up as "lonely". YMMV
