Good door/window contact sensor?

I bought a pack of the ring sensors, but having nothing but problems with them. The Zooz and Aeotec I'm sure are nice, but at $25 a pop each, a little pricey.

Is there anything econmical and functional?

Honestly, $25 USD (if that's what you mean) is not a bad price for a Zigbee or Z-Wave door/window sensor. But if you like the Zooz, they often have sales, so if you look for those, you might be able to get it at a better price. It looks to be technically on sale now, too, at the price you mention, but I don't think even more of a discount than this is uncommon. Their own storefront, The Smartest House, is almost always better than other retailers (like Amazon).

That being said, the Sonoff SNZB-04 is often cheaper and does pair directly to the hub as a Zigbee device. I'm not a huge fan of these for a couple reasons: they don't check into the hub at all on a regular basis so it's hard to tell if they stopped responding for some reason (e.g., dead battery -- don't trust battery report percentages on any of these devices) and their design is a bit awkward (arguably ugly but somewhat hard to remove the cover for battery replacement and ... is this the one where you basically need a SIM card ejector or similar tool to put it in pairing mode, or is that just the motion sensor?). But if price is truly your only consideration, they are probably among the most competitive,.

The Aqara Matter over Thread (P2) door/window sensors also appear to be a tad less right now on Amazon (perhaps different elsewhere), but you'd need a Thread Border Router on your network as well as Matter enabled on your Hubitat hub for these to work.

If you don't mind using Zigbee and you don't mind the couple weeks wait I can't recommend the Moes Door/Window Sensors enough. I get them off AliExpress for sub $5 each. I have about 20 or so total with zero issues with any of them. You can get them off Amazon but they are around $18 there.

Xfinity XHS2-UE (zigbee) are usually pretty cheap on eBay (esp in multi-packs), and are great performers for many of us in the community here.

Because they're so cheap, I was skeptical of how well they'd work, but they've been rockstars - excellent battery life and rock-solid reliability. I've had mine for several years now.

I just don't like items hanging off my doors and windows. I use Aeotec Zwave Door Sensor Recessed Door Sensor 7, Z-Wave Plus Enabled Smart Door Sensor Battery Powered, SmartStart S2. But a steep price at $41 Amazon.

What is the issue with the ring sensors. I have 18 of the Ring Gen 2 contact sensors. and they have worked great and been very reliable.

The problem i have seen most frequently with them is folks trying to include them without security or messing with the security settings with them.

These sensors work great and I also have a ton of them.

I have a bunch of these sensors. I've have bought them over the last several years, they work great for me.

They just use the Generic Zigbee Contact sensor driver in Hubitat. They also do temperature. Only $5 each when you buy ten, and you can get them quickly and not from China.

Same here. I have a bunch of them now. They just work. You can't go wrong at 10 for $50 on Ebay.

De minimis went into effect today, so it is so long to Ali Express for cheap sensors, it was good while it lasted.

Just checked the app I can still order for $4.09 each. May change later today but still anything over $10 still free shipping.

Didn't try to order it may change if you do but that is what I see on the front end.

+1 on the XHS2-UE Xfinity sensors. I bought a couple of lots on eBay years ago. Still $5 a piece.

I also just read that it actually goes into effect on May 2nd, so probably time for one more order. After that, who knows what they will use for the value for the 30% tariff. I hear it can be retail price, or even just the cost of the parts to make the item, or even what its value would be if sold in the US. So it is a bit of an unknown what the actual charges will be for some cheap sensors. It may still be worth it.

Yeah who knows. Sounds like I need to order a few extra of everything. Lol

Seems like they either work in your environment, or they don't. My environment is mostly WiFi, but I do have Zwave door looks from Kwikset and Yale. The rest is mostly Zooz devices.

I don't have any of the Ring contact sensors. But I love the ability to hide the Aeotec.

The Ikea Parsol Contact sensors are nice. They look better then the Sonoff ones I originally used. Also they use rechargeable aaa batteries so better for the envioment too. They have been rock solid in my setup.
