Ghost Z-Wave Removal not working

Trying to remove a ghost zwave node (0028 (40). Its is the last item in my list and with it there I can no longer add additional items. Now I am stuck and still have another 20+ devices to include into the network. I even tried a virgin ZEN04 800LR and it go to S2 security part of inclusion and when I responded with the digits it never finished inclusion and simply timed out.

I press the refresh button but it never comes back with the remove button that I used before to clean up Ghost nodes. Discover comes back right a3way with no info or status and rebuild route takes a long time and errors out.

I have physically removed the rogue device.

Any ideas how to purge this damaged entry??

Please let us know which hub you have.

You could try shutting down your hub, pull power 30s, then plug in again and after booting up try to trigger the Z-Wave Details Refersh/Remove process again.

If C8-Pro you can switch to Z-WaveJS and try Refresh/Remove, some users have reported successful removes using Z-WaveJS that weren't happening on ZipGateway. If you're already on Z-WaveJS, then that's obviously not going to help you.

If on C8/C7 there is a way to force changing to Z-WaveJS (not natively supported).

Thanks for the reply.

Its a new C8 Pro

I was holding off on JS due to the many issues I saw on the forum. Has JS reached stability yet (or at least parity with the older ZWave)?

If I go JS can I reverse back later or is this a one way doorway? Happy to try it as an experiment but less keen to walk through a one way door.

OK I switched to JS and now rebooting, hopefully some joy here....

Swithing back and forth is easy, won't affect your use of ZipGateway when you return, other than maybe facilitating the removal of the ghost.

I'd give it a try if I were you - do the switch to Z-WaveJS using the button on Z-Wave Details, and after you restart, see if Refresh/Remove works any better.

If things come up wonky on Z-Wave after the reboot, do the shut down/30s/restart dance and try again. If it doesn't help you can just switch back to ZipGateway.

Interesting so far. I picked up a second rogue device with the switch to JS and both offer the remove button.

fingers crossed....

Solved! Got rid of both the rogue devices. Now to try pairing in a new device.

Thanks!

I have yet to have any issues with JS myself.

Per above, this might be an opportunity to try Z-WaveJS...for many folks it's been fine, and there have been a lot of updates on Z-WaveJS in recent releases.

Probably fueled by bourbon and coffee in equal amounts from @bcopeland

Exactly...I believe his "1:1" recipe is as follows:

  • One 16 oz tumbler of bourbon
  • One 8 oz cup of coffee
  • Stir & consume vigorously

Yes, I’m on JS now so might as well try it out.

I’ve added another six devices since my roadblock so everything looking good so far.

I’m migrating an eclectic collection of Zwave devices spanning back 10+ years. I collapsed the old controller in favor of Hubitat as rule machine and overall capability/ support is much better here.

Already learned my Leviton dimmers aren’t making the grade so I’ll have to shell out some $$$ to get zen77s which I use in another home. They are better dimmers but I’ll need 13-15 of them…..

Glad you're up and running and migrating...

That is a bit ouchy cost-wise...but long-run a better place to be. (I know, it's easy for us to spend your money.)

This HA thing is a hobby for me. I guess I can rationalize it as 10+ year old dimmers are due to be replaced, they don't owe me anything.

Thanks again for the guidance. I was spinning in circle prior to your suggestion.
