General HE notes

Is there a way to keep notes in HE?

I have several C7 and C8s, and none or the same and it would be nice to have a section I cn keep track of the details of each. Just like notes in MS. So I can document on going changes, how RM was done, installation notes, etc

Thanks in advance

There isn't anyway to do that, but there are notes now in devices.

You could also use a Comment instruction in the individual Rule Machine entry.

Ya that's what I use is comments in the actual rule body or the notes area at the bottom of the rule itself.

How about dashboard text boxes. Not sure of the formatting potential.

For the short term, notes on the dashboard works for me, thanks

It would be nice to have documentation built it in the future as an app

Where would you see it displaying?

what about using a "virtual device"

What about in Settings"? Add a section for user documentation? Just something simple as a notes

Something to document the complete system, document hardware, installation, wiring, maybe IP addresses, users, a way to document RM, etc, etc

I have a C8 on a rental property, I would like to document the local wifi support, etc, names, phone numbers, access to gate, etc

just a place to keep notes

How about just using a spreadsheet, with one tab per house to keep track of all of this information. :man_shrugging:t2:

This way, if the hub goes down, you’ll still have access to all of the information needed to help troubleshoot it.:sunglasses:

or have documentation section on the HE cloud, secure to the account user, again something simple

Yep, this is the way to go! I would be lost without my "Everything about my house mechanical setup (smart & dumb)" spreadsheet -- tabs for electrical, HVAC, plumbing, smart home and all sorts of other setup-related info.

It's backed up to several locations (cloud & local) for redundancy. I shudder to think what would happen if I ever lost access to that file.

I use Google Docs and Spreadsheets. You can make a dashboard link tile with it's url to open it from a dashboard tile. Then no need to open a browser and go to a bookmark or anything, just click the tile and it pops up.

I wouldn't want to store it on the hub anywhere, in case the hub dies and I would lose it.

Yes, google docs would work great for my documentation.
