GE selling off its light bulb business

Saw this today, looks like the buyer is a consumer based vertical integrator of smart home technology. Sad to see this happen when you think of all the innovations that they made in manufacturing bulbs and other lighting devices. At the Henry Ford museum in Michigan you can see one of their lighting manufacturing devices for making Edison bulbs. It was genius.

So .. do you think there will be a price hike? I see that the buyer specializes in high dollar smart home equipment.

Not sure. Before this announcement I had six GE link A19s in my attic that were worthless. I think they're still worthless.

Ah yah ... I was thinking about the smart switches. Bet that's not the same anymore huh? Hmm ...

Nah - I think that is still Jasco with GE or Honeywell branding. This is stuff like C by GE.

To be fair, even from this article, it's unclear if the smart switches that Jasco makes are included. They have a whole new line of Zigbee devices, and I'd like to try them out. However, I'm in Canada, and the border is ....

The article you linked to mentions lighting and switches in the C by GE line, The Jasco zigbee and z-wave lines aren't part of C by GE (at least not to my knowledge).

Here's GE Lighting's entire product line:

The switches really can't be part of any deal. Jasco is a private/independent from GE company. They just license the GE brand for the devices.

Yep.. Looks like jasco hitched with honeywell.. Their whole line is under that brand now

Not all of it. Just some of it.

Jasco Honeywell Branded = 12 products
Jasco GE Branded = 45 products

But even weeding out the old GE models, things like the Motion dimmer/switch and wall scene panels are still GE only, not available in Honeywell version.

I think their main strategy is to re-brand and brand new devices as "Enbrighten", and not GE at all. For instance the new zigbee 3,0 devices and the newest zwave toggle switch/dimmers all just say "Enbrighten" - no "GE" on the box at all.
