I have a GE Profile Top Load Washer and noticed that it doesn't rinse out our clothes well even with an Extra Rinse, only using 1 Tbsp of laundry detergent max, and adding vinegar to the rinse cycle to help remove the detergent. After some research, I've come to find out that GE is literally the ONLY brand that does not spin in between washes and rinses, so it never actually extracts the soapy water out of the clothes before going into the final rinse. Short of buying another washer, the only solution I have found is to run a Drain + Spin with a Deep Rinse after every wash (to effectively make it a Rinse + Spin)
I would really like to automate the addition of the "Rinse + Spin" after every wash cycle that is not it. This would really add value to my life lol. But, I'm not quite sure how to do it. GE Profile can be controlled through the SmartHQ app though I haven't find a way to actually START. I'll have to see if there's a Delay start on it after my current wash finishes and maybe I can do something with that. But, it has other controls like its Flex Dispense, storing your Favorite Cycle Settings, notifications, etc. Please help make being a home maker easier while working from home
Edit:
I'll have to see if there's a Delay start on it after my current wash finishes and maybe I can do something with that.
Okay this app is semi-useless. You can press Delay start on the actual machine and then you can control on the app when to actually start it, but that defeats the purpose for what I need. I did notice there is an Alexa integration, so I'm going to try that and see if there is a start function on there. But also, switchbot somehow?
I feel your pain...this kind of problem would drive me absolutely insane. JUST DO WHAT YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO YOU DAMN MACHINE!!!
It looks like @tomw is involved in the GE appliances integration, so you are probably in luck, he's done some really nice work around here, and responds well to offers of chips and onion dip.
I have added my SmartHQ account with his Driver and it added my Washer & Dryer, but I have no idea what "Device Type" it is to be able to add a rule on Rule Machine
I tried a HE (High Efficiency) front loader and a top loader over the years and found I like the old fashioned NE (non-efficiency) top loaders that actually fill the tub with water.
Just makes sense, what will dilute the dirt/etc a couple of glasses of water or multiple gallons?
Bought 2 commercial top loaders before they were discontinued, still running the first one well over a decade now. Spare is still boxed in garage
Believe me. I do, too. I always use the Deep Fill. I hold for 3s so it goes to Max Fill every time like a wasteful person but idc we have a private well but probably going through a lot of salt for the softener oh well lol. If I don't feel being as wasteful, I have a sacrifical highly absorbent old towel that I throw in the load to "trick" the washer to thinking there's more in there. I also press the Deep Fill button to put an additional 3 gallons on top of that lol. But the amount of water was not the issue with this one... It was the fact that it wasn't spinning in between washes and rinses to actually extract the soapy water
A lot of smart appliances won’t actually do what most people would like them to.
Many ovens can’t be started remotely, for example. Same for your washer apparently.
They don’t want to deal with the liability of someone starting the washing machine without realizing their kid crawled into it to play hide and seek after they walked away from the machine (plus that would be a genuinely horrific scenario, however unlikely). Or so I assume .
