I just noticed that my garden lights were not turing on at the scheduled time. I went and looked at the logs (i store the log event in a database) and the last activity was March 9, 2026. When I looked at the z-wave details the options were "Refresh" and "Re-build Route". After selecting "Refresh", the only options are "Refresh", "Remove" and "Replace". Below is the relevant info from the z-wave details page:
This has been working for the last 10 years (first on Wink, then on HE C-5 and C-8) and I've not had to deal with this before. Any suggestions on what I can try?
I'd probably try removing the power to the plug for 30-45 seconds and see if it reconnects when power is restored (might want to have the ZWave logs open when you reapply power).
I went to do that and discovered that someone had pulled the plug out from the outlet Now when I plug it back in and turn it on, it's tripping the GFCI on the outlet. At least now I know why it wasn't working....
Yep - first time in 10 years someone (other than me) has "unplugged" it and left it like that.
If you use Device Activity Check (DAC), perhaps this is a good device to add there.
I don't typically add mains-powered stuff to DAC, but if it's something that risks getting unplugged for whatever reason, that's a good candidate to monitor.
Wouldn't you be able to ask who unplugged it? If someone was trying to use other outlet on the GFCI and found it tripped, they may have found it was that plug tripping it, so that may be why they unplugged it. It may have already been dead before it was unplugged, and that is the reason why it was unplugged.
We don't have anyone in the house who would do that - the only thing I can think of is that the pool cleaning folks may have come to do something. We were out of the country that week, so it's a bit of a mystery.
To add insult to injury, whoever unplugged it, hung it upside down (with the outlet part pointing UP!) so now there is water in there . No wonder it was tripping the GFCI - going to let it dry out and hopefully it will still work.
Your first post mentions garden lights, so I assume the answer is yes. Just want to be sure you also weren't trying to run a pool pump or other type of motor off of it as well.
