GE/Jasco Zigbee dimmers do not switch on at dim levels below 30%

So what you're saying is, it'll be done today? :stuck_out_tongue: Zero rush on my end, I'm just grateful for the help whenever it happens!

So I shouldn't sit here clicking "Check for Update" all day today?

But in all seriousness, this fix will be appreciated. It is weird to have to tell Alexa something twice to make the light come on, but only at certain dimming levels. You just don't know if it was Alexa (who is crazy half the time) or Hubitat, or something else that failed.

its the latter, this is the second worst zigbee dimmer firmware I've ever seen, and no im not going to tell you who the worst is since we don't support that specific dimmer yet, so it's irrelevant...

I’ve noticed some inconsistencies with the new driver. issuing the set level command from the new driver will turn the light on, but will not set the level. once the light is on, issuing the command again will cause it to change to the correct level. here is what happened this morning when my rule machine closet rule went off.

my closet light rule fired:

as you can see from the log it was supposed to set the light to 40%, but instead sent a command to set the light to 87% and the light turned on at 83%.

I then stood still in the closet looking at hubitat logs on my ipad for long enough that the motion sensor reset, and the rule fired again when I moved. when this happened, it dimmed the light to 40%.

There's no way I am going to dig through that rule.
This driver was written specifically for the part number noted in the release notes and was designed to work around some of the inconsistent behavior of the device.

haha - fair enough.

I have both the 45857 in wall switch and the 45852 plug in lamp dimmer and they are both displaying similar behavior.

If they were last turned off from a level of 100%, when they are turned on by a setlevel command at 40%, they turn on, but near 100%. in watching the logs, after issuing the command, 3-5 seconds later it seems to refresh and will display the level value in the logs. If I issue the command a second time, then they will adjust to 40%. But they will not adjust to 40% directly from off.

I also am getting weird behavior with this driver on a 45852 plug similar to jrau272. The dimmer no longer appears to miss any ON commands, but the intended brightness does not work as expected.

I tried repeatedly turning on at 20 or 30 or 40 percent. Every single time it would pick some random brightness near or above 80%. I got things like 83%, 87%, and so on. It never hit the same number twice over the course of about 2 dozen on/off cycles even if you asked for something like 30% over and over again.

Once the light was on, you could ask a second time for the correct dim level, and it would (mostly) work, but occasionally it would pick something like 18% instead of 20% or something like that.

From the dashboard, from an off state, if you used the slider to stage brightness and then turned light on, it would also occasionally pick some random brightness near 80% once you click the tile to turn the lamp on. The slider would pop over by itself.

It also seems very laggy compared to the generic driver. You ask Alexa to "turn the light on to X%", and it would take 20-30 seconds to turn on but react instantly when off.

I was using this driver with GE Zigbee dimmer 45857 and it doesn't seem to relay physical switch or dimmer changes to RM for triggers (and yes I hit configure after changing). For what it's worth, I just changed the driver back to the Generic Zigbee Dimmer driver and it seems to relay physical events consistently for the rule I created. I didn't hit configure when I changed back to the generic driver, and since that is all it took to fix it, I left it alone. I switched back and forth twice to be sure it was the driver causing the issue. I just wanted to let you know; don't care if you fix it; everything is working fine for me in my setup and I know you hated this dimmer's firmware :poop:

Th Z-Wave ones do. I have mine often set at only 10%

This is a 2 year old thread. This is no longer an issue. FWIW, my GE zigbee dimmers dim lights lower than my GE Z-Wave plus dimmers. With A-19 leds, 1% works fine.

I only set my overhead bed room lights that low. It is enough to safely get in bed. I then use the remote to shut them off. Yeah, I am often pulling up dead subject when I do a search but I did not see any solution posted here.
