GE/Jasco Zigbee Dimmer on/off Indicator LED

I have read multiple threads on this subject - but the repeated answer is "this is not possible."

I have many Zigbee GE/Jasco/Embrighten/any flavor switches/dimmers and when I installed them the built-in drivers (generic or GE/Jasco) HAD the Preference setting (same as equiv Z-Wave dimmers) to set whether the LED indicator was always on, always off, on when on, or off when on - and all my switches worked correctly (I prefer the LED on when switch is off so it can be found in dark).

This weekend I did a major reset of all my Zigbee devices and now the LEDs are all staying off and there is no Preference in the driver to change it.

Is there ANY built-in or 3rd party driver that I can use to change this preference again?

EDIT: All except one follows the 3x on 1x off button press to change the LED. I have one that is just being a PITA.

The inbuilt Zigbee drivers never had a preference setting for this, I’m not aware of any way to change this via Zigbee commands.

The GE (and Generic) Z-Wave drivers have something similar to this for GE/Jasco z-wave devices. Perhaps that is what you were remembering?

There is a process to change this using the switch itself for many of the Jasco z-wave and zigbee devices (exact options vary by device, but the process is generally the same and manuals are generally easy to find).
Here is one example I found:

The LED below the dimmer acts as a guide light or status indicator.
How to cycle through options: Press up three times and down once quickly.

  1. LED is OFF all the time (default)
  2. LED is ON when the load is OFF (guide light in the dark)
  3. LED is ON when the load is ON (indicates the switch is ON)

This exactly. From my change log notes ..

not possible from the hub to change the behaviour of the GE 43076 Zigbee switch’s LED. But did find a workaround … tap the top of the paddle three times and then lower one time.

From what I remember of the Z-wave model, you had to push the paddle VERY fast sometimes, lol.

I believe you - I now think the "default" setting is LED on when switch is off - which is what I prefer, and how they were all behaving. Now I have one left that is always off and I can't get it back.

Yup, worked on 4/5 of them - just one bugger that won't behave now.

How about setting to factory defaults, cycling power on the switch, and trying again?

Factory - done several times, that's what got me here was Zigbee Reset (intentional) that required reset of all 57 of my Zigbee devices.

Power cycle is next thought, but my breaker panel is not correctly marked and that can be PITA - but probably my next effort.

Usually there is an air-gap switch at the bottom under the rocker that you can pull out and it will do a power cycle at the switch. I usually use a knife to catch it under the bottom edge.

My older ones have the air gap, my newer ones do not :frowning:
