GE dimmer switch cycling lights by itself

This morning when we woke up, our GE dimmer switch was continuously cycling a set of lights dim to bright to dim. I've heard of these devices failing such that it loses all control, and I've had a few of those. But this is something I've not seen before.

The turn-on at 6:28AM was not done by anyone in the household...

Is it time for a new switch? Has anyone seen this before and can offer a suggestion?

The fact that the event is "physical" indicates that it isn't the result of some Hubitat-driven automation going amok. I would suggest pulling the air-gap switch, waiting 30 seconds, and pushing it back in again.

Hopefully, it stops.

I had a few of the GE switches fail in this manner. Not dimmers, however. Mine just kept turning on and off. As @aaiyar suggested if air gapping doesn't fix it then you will probably have to replace it.

Check when you purchased it, because some of the switches had 5 year warranties. I just sent a switch back to them without any receipt and they say they will replace it. They send you a shipping label so it's no cost.

I had a GE dimmer fail this way. Pulling the power stopped it briefly, but that was it. I had to replace it.

Thanks for the replies. That was what I was sort-of expecting. I'll see if I can get a contact and try the replacement path.

I know for a certainty that one of my earlier GE/Jasco in-wall dimmer switches failed because I moved its air gap slider! This is a known issue, and can result (if you listen with your ear close to the switch with the faceplate removed) in an audible click-click-click sound of electrical arcing within the switch.

Once that began happening, my connected lights went on and off haphazardly of their own accord. Uncool!

So I contacted Jasco Support at 800-654-8483, where an operator took down my shipping information and offered to cross-ship me a new Enlighten dimmer switch at no charge, plus free return shipping for my faulty switch. All I had to do was (a) photograph the existing installed switch, and (b) provide proof-of-purchase (which, in my case, was nearly 5 years ago from Amazon!).

Good luck with yours. I wanted you to have this information handy in case you need to execute an RMA with GE/Jasco.
