Hi - my 31 year old garage door system is on its way out. Currently I have a GoControl GD00Z-2 (I have had that since I my original Wink controller) and I'm trying to figure of what will work with either that or something newer. The guy who came to service the door said they are Liftmaster dealer and all their products have MyQ tech (which I believe will not work with what I have?).
Any suggestions on what my options are would be appreciated.
Some people like Linear/GoControl. Others don't. I've myself have had 5 of them, and they've all been reliable, so I'm one of the people who do like them. YMMV.
One thing though, if you want to stay with GoControl, I would recommend updating to a current S2 model (GoControl GD00Z-8).
Thanks - GoControl has worked for me as well and I know that it's time to upgrade. It's a bit of a chicken and egg problem - which piece to get first as that would drive the second one. If I stay with the GoControl then that locks me out of LiftMaster, Chamberlain etc. and if I get the Konnected or other solution then I am tied to the MyQ offerings
I have a lift master and had the Garagadet button hooked up to a Zen16 for a while but replaced it with a RATGDO last year and have been very happy with that decision. RATGDO basically provides all the functionality of the wall button and exposes motion, beam sensor status, light status and control and you can also lock the GDO where remotes don’t open the GDO. I find the lock feature very useful at night and while on vacation because my kids cars are parked in the driveway and if someone were to break in and try to use their remotes the GDO will not open.
There is a community local integration as well using the esphome firmware on the RATGDO, HA isn’t required.
I know someone with a MyQ, or cloud-based something or other, and I recall waiting in the driveway for the stupid garage door to close. Local is where it's at. Not sure of the make, but it was indeed very quiet, compared to mine at least.
I'm using a ZEN34 in the car as a garage door opener.
Regardless, you can have a hubitat rule to turn it off in the overnight.
Or have the opener plugged into a smart plug.
I personally feel, from what little I've read, that the RATGDO is complex and expensive.
In your example sure you can disable but that’s not my point. I am referring to the ability to disable all wireless remotes that are connected to the GDO whether they are the keypads outside the garage, GDO button remotes, or the integrated car Homelink buttons that some car manufacturers include.
To each their own but $45 isn’t a lot especially when you need to buy a Zigbee/Zwave relay plus a Garagadet which will come close to that cost and provides less functionality. In terms of complexity it was super simple to setup with many YouTube videos walking you through it.
I was looking into the Konnected device but it wasn’t available yet when I bought the RATGDO. Plus I felt like supporting the original developer of the technology so I didn’t wait on Konnected. It has been a set it and forget it device with no issues. Know the Konnected device has a nicer case, etc but mine is inside a lunch container on top of my GDO out of site
