Question to anyone with the IKEA branded Sonos speaker, how do they sound compared to similar sized Sonos branded speakers? Assume you can control them via Sonos app too?
Similar to the original Play:1 but a bit less full.
Where they REALLY shine though, and why I have two of the IKEA Sonos bookshelf speakers, was because of how easy they can be hacked to add a subwoofer for WAY less than the Sonos sub.
Doing this hack for our living room made the WAF skyrocket as it sounds pretty awesome to our ears.
This is the sub I used. We liked it because it turns itself off when it doesn’t detect audio from the speakers. Polk Audio PSW10 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002KVQBA/
All-in the process was about an hour. Highly recommend. Is this a ‘pro/audiophile level setup’ no, but it sounds damn good to us!
The bookshelf sounds really good, although I would agree it lacks a bit when compared to the Play:1. But I feel the lamp sounds noticeably better. For the money, these are awesome speakers and you'll have a hard time finding something that sounds better in that price point. I'd have a bunch of these in the house already if they worked with Alexa's whole home audio.
Wow, what a great mod and video walkthrough of how he did it.
I purchased a symfonisk speaker soon after they were released, they were still $100 then, to try out the Sonos app and Hubitat integration.
I’m not quite willing to buy into the Sonos premium price, but I have to admit the iOS app is very good, and the local integration with Hubitat is a big bonus.
The IKEA line of Sonos speakers seems like a great way to get some of the benefits of the Sonos ecosystem without going all in on Sonos branded hardware.
100% to everything else you wrote, too! I was initially skeptical but it really was as easy as the video shows.
Here’s how it looks. Just running the cords for power and the speaker wire to the sub through some inexpensive, paintable, Home Depot conduit that was $5 or so if I recall. This is behind our sofa and, again, the sound is really good!
