Forum quirks since the upgrade

You do?!? Then I am surprised you didn't say anything about the greetings taking half of the screen on mobile

@bobbyD A few questions/suggestions:

  • Is it possible to add the 'Top' link to the header?
  • Any plans to implement the side bar? Looks like it's being more widely implemented in some other Discourse communities I use.
  • Does the AI stuff work? Maybe useful here where there are overlapping posts, some of which don't get the same attention as others.

Sure, but what do you mean by 'Top'?

No, I don't see a good reason for it.

Not implemented yet, but on the list of future enhancements.

That is my new favorite thing I'm sharing at work today lol

Lots (most?) have a link that leads to the 'top' posts. I'm not sure how Discourse calculates Top, but it's more than just impressions.

OK, IMO it seems a bit easier to drill down to where you want to go especially if using categories frequently. There's plenty of space in the browser window for it (which I know is not always a good reason to add it).

It would be a big change to move the menu on the left instead of where it is now, on the right. The new menu allows you to customize the categories you'd like to visit most, so maybe that would be a workaround solution for you?

Please refresh the page

Hamburger icon means extra clicks and more eye movement. And frankly I didn't even remember it was there. Here is what Discourse's own site looks like (IMO they waste a lot of space in the default theme, but they have a theme changer that has a bunch of options)

Looks good. IMO 'Top' fits in better on the line with latest/new/unread links as other text links in the top banner of the page go places outside of the community forum

LOL, you said header. I agree it's better with latest/new/unread links as other text links... That would have been a much easier add ....Done!

I see it's in the hamburger menu. I meant in the table header like the Discourse screen shot above. Sorry for any miscommunication.

I personally dislike the new default Discourse left-pane section that I see on Home Assistant's and IotaWatt's Community sites.

I very much prefer having the extra space used for the threads, and I like the Hamburger Menu placement with its fly-away pop-up. Seems like a much better use of space to me, personally. Ideally, Discourse would allow users to choose which design they prefer.

Works well for me, @bobbyD !

I would too if there were constraints. There don't seem to be any constraints on a computer monitor/laptop. On my laptop monitor that is about 13.25" across the Hubitat threads take up just over 8". That leaves about 5" that are white space that is not used for anything. On the Home Assistant forum the threads take up the same ~8". The side menu uses just less than 2", leaving ~3" of remaining white space.

My iPad Air screen is just under 9" across. Hubitat uses the same ~8" for threads. Home Assistant uses its same 2" for side bar and shrinks the threads space to 6.75". The impact is that long titles get folded to a 2nd line.

On the iPhone both communities show a similar list of topics. Hubitat's fonts are larger (maybe too large IMO). Hubitat's iPhone layout has had some recent changes that have inadvertently introduced a very small amount of scrolling.

I guess it would be nice to be able to go either way as the side is menu is easier to use. Not sure if that would be an easy theme to implement. Nor would I probably make it a high priority.

Unfortunately, the menu is outside of theme, and there is an either or. You can't pick the left or right menu depending on the screen size :frowning:

I agree, the Klipper forum turned it on too and it feels cluttered to me.

The top is now there, too
