Flash Switch action doesn't work

I am running RM4 and trying to get some switches to flash. If I set the action to Turn On it works fine, My switches are Innovelli which do not have the flash function with the current HE driver. The Driver from Innovelli has the flash funtion but doesn;t have a status funvtion. Back to the original issue, even if I set a Bulb to flash it doesn't work. Any ideas why it isn't working?

For this to work, the driver you're using has to expose a "Flash" command (button) on the device page. There are multiple Inovelli drivers and I don't know which do or don't off the top of my head, but it sounds like you have one that does. So the other question: does the command actually work? Press the button on the device page to try it out.

Even though RM offers this as a built-in action, "Flash" isn't really a standard command, so not all devices will have it. Like many devices, I know the Inovelli also do not "natively" support any flash functions, so this is all emulated the driver with something like repeated On/Off or Set Level commands. That is something you could also do yourself in a rule with repeated actions (or just a series of them manually). I wouldn't do this with too many devices at the same time regardless or use too quick an interval, as it's likely to create a lot of Z-Wave traffic, but you can see what may work well for you.

Thanks Robert

It is strange to me that the innovelli driver has the flash function and it works fine, but a switch template will not show the status of the switch. The HE driver shows the status but no flash. I just want to set about 6 switches to flash for an emergency indication, fire, intrusion, etc. I'll see if I can work something with an on/ off cycle

I'm having a similar issue. Flash command will work when I hit the "flash" button in the device's web interface, but the command won't work in RM.

Can the staff reproduce this bug or should I look further into my own config. I'm using the Generic Zigbee Switch driver.

Well if the device page itself is showing flash, and you click it and it flashes, then there isn't any reason it shouldn't work in RM... Have you tried RM 5? Also shouldn't you be using the dimmer template?

Thanks for your answer.

Yes, using RM 5 and this happens only when the command is sent to multiple devices. If I set the app to flash only one device or if I make sure to add only on/off switches (no dimmers), then it works. As soon as I add any dimmer, it works AND doesn't work, depending on the device.

What is really strange is that I can't seem to find any common denominator: some combinations of devices work, and some others don't work.

When I say "some combinations of devices" I don't mean drivers.

I made sure to keep adding devices using the same drivers. Some devices with "Sengled Element Color Plus" will seem to make the set of devices not flash, some others won't flash but won't prevent the regular switches from flashing.

I ran several tests using a RM 5 rule with nothing else than a flash command.

So, in short:

  1. sets of simple on/off switches will flash
  2. some sets of simple on/off switches with some Sengled Element Color Plus won't flash
  3. some sets of simple on/off switches with some Sengled Element Color Plus WILL flash...

I also made sure that the different Sengled bulbs I'm refering to are all on the same hub (to make sure it's not a hub mesh related issue).

I'm not sure to know what you mean by "using the dimmer template".

Update:
After consideration I feel we should let @Hubitat_Staff know about this issue because I noticed that as a consequence none of my scenes / alerts involving flashing RBG lights are working now. It therefore appear clearly to me now that there is a bug somewhere, some incompatibility stopping rules from executing, which is a real problem in terms of safety and alerts.
