Is there a way to find or get the Mac address of a device on the C8 hub. I have a Sonoff present sensor and would like to reserve an IP address for it.
Its a Wifi device?
You could run arp -a
from the command line on a PC to see all the devices on the LAN
Or otherwise doesn't the router interface show you the MAC?
I can't tell which device it is
If its a Wifi device, how do you have it integrated with HE? Wouldn't it need to the IP to talk to it?
Ok, I'm lost. I look at a list of all the ip addresses of devices and there is no label or name. How do I know which device is the Sonoff without knowing the Mac address?
How do you use the device currently? Does it connect to some app on your phone? Usually on those apps somewhere you can go into the details and see the MAC and/or IP of the devices.
No app connected through HE C8
I guess I can just delete the device and see the missing IP and the reinstall it.
Unless that is a device connected to your network via WiFi or Ethernet, you are not going to see a MAC address for it nor will you be able to set an IP address for it.
It sounds to me like you’re a bit confused about the type of device/s you have and how they are connected.
A MAC address (Media Access Control address) is a 12-digit hexadecimal number assigned to each device connected to a network. Primarily specified as a unique identifier during device manufacturing, the MAC address is often found on a device's network interface card (NIC). A MAC address is required when trying to locate a device or when performing diagnostics on a network device.
Each network interface in a device is assigned a unique MAC address, so it's possible for a device to have more than one MAC address. For example, if a laptop has both an Ethernet cable port and built-in WiFi, there will be two MAC addresses shown in the system configuration.
Z-Wave and Zigbee devices do not have MAC addresses, as they do not connect to a network via WiFi or Ethernet.
Delete the device from where? If it is directly connected to your HE hub, it is either a Zigbee or Z-Wave device and will not have a MAC address that you’d see anywhere.
Is this the device in question?:
If it is, that is a Zigbee device and as previously stated will not have a MAC address nor can you set an IP address for it.
Your right, I don't know what I was thinking. I reserved an IP for a matter device and was thinking it was zigbee
