Feature request: Switch that determine app is active

@bravenel As I continue my RL journey and explore the powerful options and possibilities with this app, I have found myself thinking "Wouldn't it be handy to have the feature 'Switch that determine app is active'?". This switch would in my mind be similar, but opposite, to the "Switch that determine all lights are turned off", i.e. tell the app that the app should actually be active because this switch is on.

My use case for this is that the RL app may have a whole lot of activation restrictions specified such as don't turn on during this time, this mode or when illumination is over X, etc. However, that doesn't stop anyone from still using another out of band method for turning the lights on, such as a physical (smart) light switch, voice assistant or vendor app etc. Use of these will just turn the lights on with no regard to any RL criteria. At this point RL would still not show as active, even though the light is now on. Since RL is not active, it will also not turn the lights off again automatically.

The "switch that determine app is active" feature would activate the RL app in this scenario, disregarding all activation restrictions (since the lights are now already on). It would also disregard all activation settings for any and all devices configured for this RL app. The only action the feature would take is to set the status of the app to Active. Normal RL means to turn off and their restrictions would now work.

I would appreciate any consideration for this feature request

You can still have RL turn the lights off in this circumstance. This is why the Conditions that Limit Activation are separate from those that Limit Turning Off.

When you select the option to 'Turn Off even if partially off' it ignores whether or not RL is Active.

Oh, I had completely missed that "Turn off even if already partially off" would work even if the app was not active. Does that mean that even when the app is not active, it will still schedule the app to turn off after motion is no longer detected, if that is configured in the app?

Assuming that something has happened to make one of your Means to Turn Off do its thing. For example, suppose RL is limited not to activate in a room with a motion sensor, but someone turns on the light in that room. If Means to Turn Off includes Motion Inactive, then that will still work to turn the light off.

This is the reason Means to Activate and Means to Turn Off are separated, and their corresponding Conditions to Limit.

That sounds like that should cover my requirements. I'll give it a whirl. Thanks @bravenel!

I have tested this now and can confirm that it works as advertised! Thanks again @bravenel
