Hello. (Since this is my first post, please forgive my ignorance).
In terms of the forthcoming (and much anticipated) mobile app, I understand that notifications, and presence sensing are the two critical aspects. In addition, control (via access to dashboards) is also forthcoming.
I feel that this would miss a key convenience factor that the competition(ST) has.
That factor is "basic device control". (I'm not quite sure how to categorize it).
What I mean is that the competition has the ability to go to the device, turn on device inclusion (or exclusion), and get immediate feedback on the mobile after including or excluding the device. That's a great convenience! It makes everyone's life MUCH EASIER.
I'm not sure if this is possible, but there are many individuals here who are very capable and can answer this question. Is it (theoretically) possible to use the AEON Z-Stick on it's own, (without being put into the USB of the Hub)? That way, you could go over to a new device, with the Z-Stick and mobile in hand. It would make things SO MUCH EASIER!
(I know the Z-Stick only works with Z-Wave, not Zigbee, but still...)
What do you think? Possible? Worth pursuing? Easier than bringing the HE to the device?
This is already possible by loading the local UI in the browser of your device. You do not need a mobile app for that.
What you are asking of viewing the include/exclude status from HE while ONLY using the Aeotec stick is not possible.
HE does not "know" anything about the include/exclude of anything if the stick is NOT plugged in and HE running the process.
Unfortunately in the current UI you don't even know that your exclusion is successful or not. (I know, keep a window with the lights open).
It would be much more convenient if the UI would let you know.
You can use an Aeon ZStick joined or not, and go near to a device and put the Aeon ZStick into Exclude mode (blinking orange) and exclude the near device. That part is easy because EVERY ZWave controller does Exclude.
Inclusion is more complicated.
The Aeon ZStick must be joined to the Hubitat ZWave network first. When you put it into Include mode (blinking blue) it will "converse" with the SUC/SIS (Hubitat Radio Stick) and get a next Node number. When you do the join of a near device, both the Aeon ZStick and the Hubitat Radio Stick know you did it. What does NOT happen is anything at all on the Hub itself. You will have a "ghost device" on the ZWave Sticks and you would then have to get the hub to initialize the device, etc. Once upon a time, Hubitat had a "Discover" button appear for these devices... I haven't needed to do it in so long, I don't know where that is now.
As a result, I don't see how it saves much. I would use a mobile (phone or pad) and put Hubitat into Include and get it all done at once.... in other words, the Aeon ZStick is a great Exclude tool, but complicates the Include.
The Aeon ZStick has a battery inside, specifically for this functionality, doesn't need to be plugged in, although, obviously it has to be charged up.
I meant log open, not lights open.
Yep, this we already have on our list for improvement.
This threw me at first when using exclude, but now I just go to devices and see if the device I am trying to exclude is actually gone. A “Success” message would be good though.
It needs a internal battery for internal time clock, so in case internet conection is lost, evething will keep on runing at time. Like the battery any Pc uses (CR2032 battery). For now there is no way to stay realy LOCAL, since without intenet no reted timerules, modes or else will work, unless you have a intenal NTP server.
Is hobitat ready to be areal Local Smart Hub?
