Took me a bit but I think I found an issue with turning on a lamp and then setting it to fade x amount in x time
So it does work, but the issue comes into play once I start messing with rules after its on or I clear the log screen. I can see in debug when its working that the level is confirmed and verify in the device page that the light is dimming as it should.
Today I messed with the settings during the day when its off. When the lamp came on an hour later it was still at 90 instead of dimming. I went into the rule and into the dimming section and clicked done and done again to exit out of the rule and it started working.
While it was on I cleared the logs page and it no longer reported the debug light level confirmed ( I looked at the device page and it didn't change) I went to rule manager and dimming section again and clicked done to exit all the way out and it started showing up again and dimming
Pretty basic setup. Worked fine last night as I didn't mess with any settings anywhere
I'm not following what you are doing, or trying to do. If you tell it to fade over 240 minutes, it sets that in motion. Messing with it after that is unlikely to work out the way you might want it to.
If you then go back into that rule and hit done again, that's going to restart a new 240 minutes from wherever the light level was before.
What is it that you want to have happen?
So this afternoon I changed the rule to something a little different, after thinking about it I put it back to the original state in the screen shot. When the time hit 5pm it came on and I was doing something else about a little after 6pm I asked the wife if the light came on at 5pm. She said yes so I looked at the logs and nothing was happening and no dimming for an hour.
That is when I went to the dimming section and just clicked done and done to exit and it started working.
The light will go off in a few minutes, but the last 30 mins its dropped from 50 to 48 so that itself just seems strange as it should have dropped a bit more in 30 mins than just that
So let me ask this, its 930 and I can see a switch command but its still running the 240 time for dimming and didn't shut off. The device says switch is off but its on still.
Shouldn't the light have turned off or ?
I manually used the off button to turn the light off, it came right back on still running the dim routine..
I think what I’m learning is that if a rule is set it will over ride a manual change of the light until that rule is finished.
I guess I have a bit of a learning curve here if that is the case. So maybe nothing is actually wrong its how I’m thinking it should work vs how it really does…
This can be considered resolved. For now I’ve removed the dim portion and just went with the light on at 80% and all is good. I’ll play more with settings when I make changes to fully understand them before thinking there is an issue. Thanks
One you hit Done in the rule, you start it all over again from where ever it was. So a new 240 minutes. If you did that when it was at 50%, it's going to dim even slower.
Yes, once set in motion, this dimming function is going to continue until it's complete, irrespective of other things you do to the light in question.
