Excessive OTA requests from Thirdreality devices

Hi @mike.maxwell and @kkossev

I did an overnight capture of zigbee logs and up to 10% of the hub's zigbee traffic are OTA requests coming from Thirdreality devices: vibration sensors and plugs.

I search the forum and found this older thread: What's up with all the extra Zigbee OTA traffic on 2.3.3?

So I assume the hub is indeed responding with NO_IMAGE_AVAILABLE (can you confirm?) which would mean the Thirdreality devices are ignoring the hub's response?

As a test, I wrote a (very hackish) driver that listens to the zigbee log websocket and sends a response to incoming OTA requests and it made no difference.

Thank you for confirming. I suppose they've been told and not acted upon this information? (wouldn't be the first time... attribute report configurations come to mind)

I'll send them an email anyway, worth a shot.

Thank you for that!

I have ThirdReality tilt sensor :

and ThirdReality plug (EU version) :

However, I do not observe any excessive OTA traffic / ZDO Match Descriptor Request messages ...

These are paired to my C-8 Pro, latest platform versions.

Will monitor these devices more closely in the next days

Thank you for looking into it. I also have a tilt sensor (3RDTS01056Z) like yours and multiple night lights (3RSNL02043Z) that do not exhibit the excessive OTA message behaviour.

However I do see OTA traffic from my two vibration sensors (3RVS01031Z) and nine plugs (some 3RSP019BZ, most 3RSP02028BZ).

  • The vibration sensors query every five minutes but retry 3 times at 5 second intervals for every check = 4 queries every five minutes.
  • The plugs send one request every five minutes, no retries, so perhaps they do honor the response from the hub. Still, checking for firmware every 5 minutes seems excessive, but not a huge concern... they are mains-powered after all.

Most of my observations are on a C7 but I also have one plug on a C8 Pro. Latest platform versions. I updated the firmware on the plugs last night (from 1233-D3A6-1001305C to 1233-D3A6-10013065) but so far the behaviour is the same.

Thanks. The C7 zibgee mesh (over 100 devices) is functioning fine, the main adverse effect will likely be reduced battery life on the vibration sensors...
