Everything Xbee

Same here

Thanks for this. I'll get my order in the queue. Not a big deal if it doesn't have the higher power rating. So far, I don't actually need these. All the Xiaomi devices are behaving, I'm sure because of the close distance, and the fact that I only have 14 Zigbee devices paired directly to HE. Never hurts to have at least one repeater, and this sounds like it's about the best type I can add. Xiaomi Motion Sensor number two is on order. I'm obsessed with these beautifully designed little devices, so I'm sure I'm going to be glad I have that repeater in place at some point. Or best case scenario, I'll never even notice, because everything will just work.

Primarily, I'm interested in the network topology, and this seems like the most useful of ways to learn more about it. I really appreciate your dedication to this, your advice, and your insights.

I am also having great luck with the Xiaomi stuff. So much so, I ordered 8 moisture sensors last week, which will put me over the zigbee direct connect limit. Digi has a 3-pack dev kit for around $90 US, if you can find them. It comes with a Grove dev boards, Xbee modules, and micro usb cords. Sales person told me they’ve seen a run on these lately (I wonder why?) Mines on back order.

are these values swapped?

@NoWon @gavincampbell updated the settings then tried to rediscover the module with xctu but getting this:

using these devices:

https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/888-XBP24CZ7SIT-004
https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/426-DFR0050

how does one reset this module ... dont see a accessible button anywhere.

thank you.

edit: had to change baud rate to 115200 in the add radio module window. leaving this up just in case someone else runs in to this.

getting an error when scanning the network ,,, devices listed in post just above this:

search hasnt returned anything meaningful yet ... any pointers on what might be going on?

thank you.

I’ve seen them both ways in multiple posts so I have them currently like this and it works well. So can’t say for sure.

I saw the first error and just unplugging he unit reset it for me. I guess my baud rate was already changed so I was all good.

As for the scanning error. I haven’t seen that at all.

going to return this one:
https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/888-XBP24CZ7SIT-004

and get this one which has been working well for me:

1 each of 1200m outdoor range on these in opposite corners of the house should be enough to cover my palace.

btw even though this is connected to hubitat i am seeing zigbee devices on ST are also much more responsive and stable since i have put in the xbee. and 90% of these are not xiaomi devices.

not sure how that is possible or is it just my imagination?

Good to hear. That's the one I'm waiting for.

anybody know enough about writing a zigbee device driver that would help build a driver for these?

may be this could be useful:

thank you.

Guys
this is brilliant!
Thank you all SO much for the info here.

I now have my xbee up and running... repeating and mapping (and another two on order to use as repeaters)

Fantastic!

(Now I just need to find something similar for z-wave)

Guys
I’m having real problems joining the second and third xbee that I bought.
They are descovered but then Hubitat says “initialising” and it doesn’t go any further.

The 1st xbee joined easily and I have even copied the config from one to another but they won’t initialise.

I even tried removing the original and still nothing, although the 1st rejoined perfectly.
Obviously I have tried a hub reboot

Any tips/ideas to get these to join correctly?

Andy

did you change the NI setting so they do not all have the same name?
I have never tried using the same name for all my devices
I am running 3 xbee3

Yep,
I changed the names so that they are unique
I've even tried copying the firmware from the 'good' one to the others (although they said they were the same)

Do they all have the same config?
did you copy the config or change each setting?

I had them stick like that once and I have noticed it with other type of devices now as well.
Where they get added to the network but don't show up in the hubs device list.
I bet if you scan with your good xbee you will see them.
unfortunately getting them deleted is a pain. I had to change the settings on the xbee to a end device and re pair/add them (as an end device) . Then remove/delete them from the hub and set the xbee settings back to router and pair/add them again (as a router).

You are right
When I scan with the 'good' one I can see them..
They are connecting to other routers but not to the hub or endpoints.. strange

I'm still playing

I just got my first Xbee set up (the XB24CZ7PIT-004 module on a Grove THT dev board) and I'm having the same problem: Hubitat detects it and it goes to "Initializing" but never progresses. I can't see it as a Device or in the ZigBee settings page (maybe I'm missing something?), but I did see it in the ZigBee logs. I connected it to my computer and looked at the map in XCTU and saw that it reported being connected to my hub, so I also think it worked despite not showing up as such. Maybe something in newer firmware versions changed this? Or maybe it was just bad luck on my part. I'll see if it actually starts routing devices. BTW, I used the settings in the original post in this thread but I see that post 16 (and 17) also has suggestions, so I might try those instead if I have problems.

Any suggestions for an XBee newbie are welcome, by the way. It looked so complicated I almost didn't try it, but it wasn't too hard once I found compatible part numbers (most previously suggested are no longer in stock) and determined that the first Xbee I got sent was defective, it wasn't too hard.

try using the end point settings and pair it to the hub then after it is paired change the settings back to router.

This arrived today, and beat the Xbee module from DigiKey which is still on backorder. Due to arrive at their warehouse on July 27. Hope it works. Not bad for $2.62

[Edit] Sounds like this daughter card may cause corruption when programming and the card may short against the USB plug. Best to avoid this and order the good board. See this post from @NoWon please.
