Ever wonder whats inside a z-Wave switch?

Well since I just got my warranty replacement device and they never asked for the old one back I decided to do a fun tear down.
This is a Jasco/GE Z-wave + Switch

You can see in these two pictures the red Z-Wave antenna

The back comes of very easy and reveals the posts, some caps and a relay and anyone know what that yellow thing is?

Here you can see the smarts of the board

And here you can see the connector that makes contact if you pull out the all off button on the face of your switch

Then the back of the one board with the IC on it. There is a lot going on inside this little switch and it seems like the one board is the high voltage and the other is low voltage and is air gaped

I killed a GE Fan Controller a while back when didn't turn off the breaker or pull the air gap switch when swapping out the fan and accidentally grounded the load wire. Apparently there's a bit of current leakage when the controller is off and a small spark ensued after which the unit was dead.

I pulled it apart and it looked very similar. I haven't attempted to replace it yet but under the shrink sleeve tubing you'll find a soldered-in fuse. I'm guessing (in my case at least) that's what blew.

Looks like the yellow device is a capacitor
