I have an Eve energy outlet that I’m trying to get working with a Zoom Zen32 scene controller. I have both added to Hubitat without issue and I can control the top plug using the button controller app and assigning the outlet to button 5. But I can’t find anywhere to control the second plug….or a way to make both go on and off at the same time.
I can see the outlet in HomeKit and can control both plugs independently….so I know they are working.
I have the plug set up as a generic matter plug in Hubitat.
So that's a receptacle. By code one will always be hot, while the other one can be controlled. So there isn't anything wrong with your setup. If you want dual plugs to be controlled you will need a wall wart.
I'm guessing they have this model -- I always thought having one hot was a requirement too for smart receptacles, but the Amazon product description claims it's UL-cert'd, so
ETA -- The issue boils down to the fact there's no native Matter driver that would support 2 outlets like this on a single device. This device would need a unique driver in order to handle both.
I've always heard that too, but I've never actually seen a code reference that definitively states that. If you can point to one, I'd be grateful. And I'm not trying to be contentious here -- I'd just be curious to know if that's actually fact or fiction.
Everything I'm seeing online about this receptacle says otherwise -- both outlets are controllable.
Ok I think that makes sense. But how come I can control each individual plug on the outlet from HomeKit? It’s possible, just maybe not through Hubitat yet….or that I know how to yet.
This is from the Eve site regarding this outlet:
Can I control the two outlets individually?
*Yes, you can – either by voice, app or manually via the control buttons on the device. * While controlling the outlets can be done individually, power consumption is measured and displayed as a combined value of both outlets.
I could be wrong on the single vs both outlets. If you can control both outlets from homekit, that means the matter driver for it on hubitat will need to be rewritten to handle child devices. Until then you could use virtual switches.
You can always change the driver to the Tapo Smart Matter Outdoor Dual Plug and see if that works. I have the actual device and it allows Hubitat to control both outlets. I think that is the only matter plug on Hubitat that supports dual plug controls. If that doesn't work, then virtual switches and Homekit rules would allow control of the other outlet.
One of @bcopeland or @mike.maxwell should be able to help write either an individual or a generic matter dual plug driver for the device.
I switched over to the Tapo Smart Matter Outdoor Dual Plug driver, it exposed the second plug and I’m able to control each one individually. Thanks!!
