They seem to be out of the Minoston plugs I've used before so I tried these...
Zigbee Smart Plug,16A Smart Outlet with Energy Monitoring
Sorry...they don't really even have a name other than "smart plug."
They are recognize and turn on/off..but the monitoring reports fail...which is what I need. I don't suppose anybody has a driver that works for these? They say they work with smartthings so I was hoping to just get lucky.
The same q is still out there...but the Tuya driver seems to work. It's a little slow to report a power change...but it works. If there is a better or more specific one...I'd still like to know.
Agree the Third Reality do work well but my only issue with them is they remain off after a power outage. I have a few that I always keep on and I had to create automations to know when a power outage happened and turn them back on.
Thanks guys. I may test a couple of these. Like I said the ones I have are a little slow to self report. In this case, I'm using the power reading to determine what state my Frame TV is in On/OFF/Ambient.
Sadly, all those commands are toggles...and Ambient (Frame pic mode) doesn't really have an on/off state through the driver. But, as long as I'm not flipping modes back and forth quickly, the power meter outlet gives me device state indirectly for rules.
If you can get them, the Sinope smart plug is excellent. Very fast reporting, and typical Sinope high quality. Not a bargain plug, but it was less expensive for me than the Eve Energy thread plug that I promptly returned.
Sinope is Canadian, so you might have to pay the extra orange idiot tax. Since your profile says you were a Fortune 500 network architect, I would expect you can appreciate the cost of quality.
"Tuya" is almost a generic brand, many manuf using it for their products, so usually hard to tell unless someone here has already tried the specific plug/manuf you're looking at.
Best to ask about Tuya metering plugs in this topic:
There is one discussed in that topic that might be similar to the one you asked about:
@ts1234 - Second the Third Reality suggestion...good plugs, work out of the box and used by many here, they have history of providing FW updates, good pricing, and ETL certified.
Have you checked out the Samsung integration (did not test it as I have LG TVs), you might be able to get that info from there instead of using a plug?
