Energy Meter vs Power Meter on Aeotec SmartSwitch

I have Aeotec SmartSwitch gen2 and 6 and I noticed there are two similar terminologies that I'm failed to understand when to use what:

  • Power Meter (available on Aeotec gen 6 only)
  • Energy Meter (available on Aeotec gen 6 & gen 2)

Does anyone know what's the difference between these two measurements?

Thanks

Power is a measure of the real-time amount of electricity being used, typically displayed in the units of Watts (W).

Energy is a measure of how much electricity was used over a given amount of time, typically displayed in units of kiloWattHours (kWH).

Your light bulb may use 100 W when on (i.e. power). If left on for 10 hours, it would have consumed 1 kWH of energy.

Your electric bill is based on how much electricity was consumed for the past month, and is thus in the units of kWH.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, definitely great explanations.

Interesting enough Aeotec Smart Switch Gen 2 does not show the realtime power usage; while gen 6 does

Can you set the period in aeotec?

I am not sure, as I do not use any Aeotec devices any longer. I went with a whole home energy monitoring system from IoTaWatt.com, which has been great.
