Editting Rules

---------------------------Hello,

This is on a non-pro c8 model running the version released yesterday.

With the latest update to the hubitat, I am having trouble figuring out how to get to my individual rules. Previously, I clicked on "apps" and types "achi"--a partial, unique short search term that brings up the rule machine in the list without bring up other rule manages . Under the main link to the rule machine app, there used to be a list of all the rules and I could move to the link of the rule I wanted to edit, and click on it. The list of rules is no longer appearing. How do I get a list of my rules?

On a side note, I did the update when a rule that used a time trigger was supposed to disarm the safety monitor, and the update was still in progress when the trigger was supposed to activate, and the safety monitor never got disabled.

I am also blind. So no screenshots please.

Another problem I am having is with the new mode manager. To the right of each listed mode are three buttons. These buttons are not labeled. So my TTS application says "button button button."

There's a little expansion/collapse arrow directly to the left of the Rule Machine link as well. There is no pop up bubble like with the Rule Machine link, ie, Open App.

I counted 8 tabs to get to the rule machine line, ie, you don't have to tab all the way to RM link, and then you can do the arrow thing.

It also seems to remember the layout when you navigate away, unless you edit another app, etc.

Thanks for bringing this up, The main user interface had a huge overhaul for 2.4.0 and it sounds like some of the accessibility got messed up. I would suggest using the diagnostic tool to restore the previous firmware you were on for now while they can look into this. Here are the diagnostic tool instructions: Hubitat Diagnostic Tool | Hubitat Documentation

If you do not have immediate needs you could also just wait it out and I am sure they will get things fixed in short order with another update. There are many people who rely on the UI working with TTS.

That is actually normal, if the hub is offline during any rule trigger event, the hub does not retroactively trigger rules once it boots. Imagine if the hub was offline for hours (or days), how would the hub know which missed rules would be appropriate to run?

Sorry for the confusion. I was trying to explain my reason for trying to bring up the list of rules, not complain about a trigger getting missed. I use my modes as sort of a state machine, and my rules govern the changes from one state to another. I have a "Set Mode to Transition" command which checks a number of conditions to decide which state to go to next. I was trying to load that rule so I could run it, and get the machine out of Might mode with the HSM armed.

Anyway, clicking on random buttons allowed me to find a button which listed the child apps after the rule machine item. There are a pair of buttons before the link for the Rule Machine, and the first button brought up the child app. And searching for "Transition" did not load the rule as someone suggested. Also Tooltips that come up when the mouse hovers over a button is not an accessible feature, especially for users who do not have a mouse, per se. Finally, the accessibility check box is checked. I checked it at least five years or so ago.

Except for these minor glitches, I like the new UI.

BTW, here is a cool thing I did. I created a virtual button, "Heartworm Medication." I have a rule to rmind me to take the dogs out every three hours, and now that rule checks to see if that switch is on or off. If it is on, that rule also sends me a reminder to give them their medication. There is another rule to turn it on the 15th of every month. And after I give them their medication, I say "Alexa, turn off heartworm medication.

HI @user1067 - while reading your forum post I noted you stated you have written a mode state tool of some sort. Did you use rules or is this an app? I just recently began writing a more robust mode (I'm calling it Period Management) tools to help me over some humps I have. Do you have anything you'd care to share or collaborate on?

Well, my state machine uses states which are the modes themselves. I have several states;

  1. Ambient -- when the lux detectors in front and back yard read less than 800 lux. When this mode activated, two lights in the living room are turned on at a relatively low level.
  2. Day Mode -- when the lux at both lux detectors are above 850, the living room lights are turned off.
  3. Evening Mode - After Sunset; when activated, the living room lights are turned on, and cranked up a bit, and the porch light in the front yard is turned on. One kitchen light is also turned on.
  4. Night Mode - Certain time in the evening; all lights are turned off, and HSM is armed.
  5. Transition Mode - sort of a reset mode. turns off all the lights. It checks the time, lux levels, and so on and changes to the appropriate mode. It also turns off the HSM.
  6. Cleaning Mode - turned on manually with Alexa command; turns on all interior lights at highest luminosity and contrast levels to help in cleaning. When exited, it goes to Transition mode which automatically turns off all the lights and proceeds to the current level.

Each mode has a pair of rules. A trigger rule and a setup mode. For example, Day Mode is triggered when the lux levels reaches 850 lux on the two detectors. and the setup rule which turns off the living room lights.

There are other rules which check the mode before they do anything. For example, the dog rule I mentioned in this thread does not run while Night mode is in force. The Night mode also locks the doors, closes the garage door, turns off some appliances that do not need to be running during the night and so on. I have a rule that activates a bedroom lamp when motion is detected in the bedroom, but only during ambient and evening mode. You get the idea. The Light Motion allows you to configure this in that app.

I designed this to capture all possible transitions. Suppose the maid comes in late afternoon, and puts the house into cleaning mode. And when she leaves, the transition state automatically selects from Day, Ambient, and Evening mode correctly. I am at a high latitude, so we can get sunset anywhere from 4 PM to 9 PM depending on the season.

I am using only two apps, the Rule Machine and the Lights-on Motion app. I found the Mode Manager app too confusing, and it did not do exactly what I needed it to do.

I'm glad to hear this was for the dogs and not you. :grinning:

For the record, it is the heartworm prophylactic, rather than the actual drugs used to treat a heartworm infestation.
What I really like about this reminder is that it will keep bugging me until I give them the medication and turn off the switch using alexa. I do not have to, three or four days later, go and count the pills to make sure I gave them their medication. It gives me a measure of confidence that a simple reminder does not.
