Hi all, I have an Ecolink PIR-ZWAVE2 Motion sensor installed and (Used to be) working with HSM.
I've experienced this issue twice now, and hoping y'all can help.
The issue that I am experiencing is that when I pair it to the hub - it will work fine for a few days. At some point, the motion sensor will become and stay perpetually "Active", and it will not register any new movement.
I got around this the first time by unpairing it and repairing it to the hub. Now, it has just happened a second time and I am not sure what to do. I have about 20 devices paired to the hub and this is the only one giving me issues.
When I look at the device page, I see
Current States
battery : 100
motion : active
The motion never becomes inactive, even after many hours of zero movement. Has anyone experienced this before that can help?
These guys are large, ugly, and slow. - I have two. I'm yet to replace the batteries in them. They're 3 years old. I have experienced issues like this before and usually when that happens, it's because there's some type of interference in your mesh. Seems like maybe there's some interference causing this issue. Do you have many z-wave mains powered devices close to the sensor?
Hey April, thanks for the reply. The vast majority of the devices I own are Zigbee. The only z-wave devices I have are this and a Schlage front door lock. The door lock and all Zigbee devices work flawlessly.
The only thing I can think of that might be doing something is that I have a medium size box fan fairly near (7' away) from the unit that runs pretty much all the time.
This is your bigger issue. Zwave isn't going to be reliable with only two devices, and worse two battery powered devices.
Battery powered devices do not repeat. You need repeaters of some type, whether they are dedicated repeaters, or many line powered devices like switches or outlets that have "beaming" capability.
You could try moving the hub or some other things, but the basic issue is a lack of Zwave mesh.
I have several of these and they have all worked fine for years, first with Smartthings and now with Hubitat for about two years. All of them recently got stuck on Active. I'm part of the Beta program so I thought a recent update might have something to do with it. The beta updates are the only change I've made recently.
I've managed to get two of them working by removing the battery for about a minute and pressing the tamper button a few times after reinstalling the battery. The others are still stuck.
Not yet. I'm not sure the beta is the cause. I don't know exactly when they got stuck. I'm trying to figure it out first or at least find some useful info.
Normally (at least for me) a low battery issue. Can also be due to a repeater in their route to the hub dropping out. Small app to force them to inactive if you think it will help:
Thanks @thebearmay. I will try the app later today. I'll also change the batteries just in case. The batteries have been in them a long time. They look good in the app but the % is usually not accurate for Lithium.
For sure! The first thing I do when a z-wave or zigbee sensor stops reporting is change the battery. And so far, it has been the issue on all but one occasion.
Yep. It's just strange that 4 of them got stuck on Active at the same time. I suspect something else is going on. I've changed the batteries and will try the app @thebearmay posted later today if I can't get them to respond.
